October Blessings – Reflection

Hi loves!

Remember a while back I mentioned October was going to be a really exciting month?! WELL – exciting doesn’t even scratch the surface. It was a whirlwind to say the least, and here is a rundown of all the amazing things I did and saw this past month!

1. Long2 Dance Company Rehearsals

I began rehearsing with Vanessa Long’s trainee company, and it has been so much fun! I enjoy Vanessa and our other director Zoe, and I feel like we have a strong group of women in our ensemble. Wednesday’s are CRAZY for me teaching fitness in the morning, running to LOWER MANHATTAN for three hours of rehearsal, and then running back to teach dance at night afterwards, but really either way, I end my Wednesdays fulfilled and excited for what’s to come – even though my body usually feels like it is on the verge of collapse. 2. My first month as a Certified Xtend Barre Instructor/TRX Training

October was also my first full month as a certified and paid Xtend Barre instructor! I taught a month full of my own classes, taught my first 75 minute barre camp, AND I was trained in a new class – Xtend Suspend (TRX). I’ve been preparing my Xtend TRX workout, and hopefully by December will be teaching the TRX classes at the studio as well! I really love my job as a fitness instructor, and my body has never been stronger.

3. Dorrance Dance Event

Over the summer while I was attending ADF, I met a choreographer I LOVE – Michelle Dorrance! I hung out with her in her dressing room after a show she performed in, and she invited me to an INVITE-ONLY event being held in NYC sometime in October. It was so hush-hush, that she couldn’t tell me what was going to happen, and only told me I had to email her assistant and tell her Michelle invited me to be on the list to get in. This was back in July when I met her, and I went to that event on October 30. It turns out it was a private viewing of a piece they debuted in 2017 as a rehearsal for their season Gala happening the next day (Oct. 31)! It was incredible, and was held in the rotunda at the Guggenheim on the upper east side. I was surrounded by lots of dancers, artists, and dance patrons, so to be invited to something like this was truly a brilliant experience.

4. Halloween Activities

I met some pretty awesome people this month at different parties and events themed around Halloween. It is my favorite holiday, and my favorite season to be spooky, so I had a lot of fun dressing up and creating characters for myself. I also had a lot of fun being able to party with my good friends and let loose a little after so much hustling and working! Since I already posted a picture of my fortune teller makeup, I’ll show you some galaxy makeup I attempted to do for a party I went to with my best friend.

PS: That septum piercing in the photo below is fake 😉

5. MY NEW PIERCINGS

Okay so number five is one of the BEST parts of October! I had two new piercings installed, and I am OBSSESSED WITH THEM! I love them so much to the point where I am actually going to make a whole post about them! 🙂 The post should be up sometime this week! I won’t tell you what I had done (it’s a surprise), but I will tell you I did a LOT of research before I had it done. And I feel like if I make a post or two about my experience, it might help someone else who is contemplating going for it too! Pictures are to come with the post, so stay tuned 🙂

This October had to be the best and busiest I’ve ever experienced. Between running to and from NYC, to modifying my body, to furthering my education and career; this month has been productive and exciting. I am so thrilled to finish out 2018 strong. And I’m SO ready for a new beginning with 2019.

Pliè for Pink – Barre for a Cause

Salutations my pretties!

On October 27, my Xtend studio along with many other Xtend Barre studios participated in Pliè for Pink! Pliè for Pink is a series of donation fitness classes where members and community residents come in to workout for a cause! Even Xtenders with memberships paid the class registration fee on this day, and 100% of our proceeds went to Making Strides Against Breast Cancer – an organization dedicated to funding research for breast cancer treatment and cure! Together as a community, our studio raised over $1000.00!

I taught the last class of the day – a 75 minute Barre Bootcamp! This task was super daunting to me since I just passed my instructor test-out last month. I met with my trainer two weeks ago to create a workout for the barre camp, and for 36 hours leading up to the event, I was rehearsing and practicing my class non-stop. I really wanted it to be perfect, especially since this was my first Barre Camp as an official instructor.

Along with getting their workout in, participants received a free pair of pink Xtend Barre sticky socks for class, and could enjoy cryotherapy facials, and desserts from Splurge Bakery!

I don’t think the class could have run any more smoothly!! It went SO well, and I was very proud of myself for being able to lead my lovely clients through 75 minutes of non-stop burning, sculpting, and cardio! Being able to teach at an event like this for such an incredible cause was humbling. Many women in my life either had cancer, or have battled cancer in many forms, so to raise awareness and money for breast cancer research with a room full of strong women was empowering.

I can’t believe Xtend Barre fell into my life so perfectly, and is something I not only love to do, but also is something I’m good at doing. I never thought I could excel as a fitness instructor (being so immersed in my dance teacher ways), but Xtend Barre has truly helped me become a better instructor in all of my avenues of teaching – dance included!

As much as we love Halloween and anticipate the upcoming holiday season, October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and it is important to come together as a community to give back.

I am Officially an Xtend Barre Instructor!

HELLO EVERYONE!

If you recall, in the spring I wrote about my weekend training to become an Xtend Barre instructor, and how Xtend Barre has changed my body! Well as you also know, right after training I left for 6 weeks for the American Dance Festival, and when I returned home, I jumped right into studying and training for test-out for my Xtend Barre certification.

I am proud to finally say – I have officially passed my test-out and am now a fully certified Xtend Barre instructor!! This was months in the making, and I’ve wanted to dip into the fitness industry by teaching barre for many years. I’ve trained in all types of barre method classes for the past 5 years as an alternative to a regular workout regimen. My discovery of Xtend Barre was purely by chance, and a risk I knew would be worth the outcome. The opportunity came at a very significant time in my life as well, and I’m so grateful for it’s timing.

Xtend Barre is a safe, and effective workout I whole-heartedly believe in. Not only have I seen the results on myself, I’ve seen them on many clients at our studio. I am SO PUMPED to be able to continue my education and my skill-set by joining this team of amazing Xtend Barre instructors. There is still so much to learn and discover, and I am definitely on my way to becoming the best, strongest me I can be.

If you all also remember, this was part of my 2018 goals! It’s been on my goal list for three years now, so now that I can officially cross it off of my long-term goal list is such an accomplishment! Onward and upward!

If you ever have the opportunity, take an Xtend Barre class. No dance experience is necessary, and many clients have seen improved strength, agility, flexibility, and weight loss!

Xtend Barre Training

Hi everybody!

Sorry for the lack of posts lately! This past weekend I trained to become an Xtend Barre instructor in Brooklyn, New York! Xtend Barre is a really fast-paced high-energy workout that combines dance, Pilates, and weight training to help sculpt, shape, strengthen, and tone your body!

This is really not just a workout for women either – men struggle through this class, even men who are strong or who are already professional dancers! At the training I attended, there was actually a male dancer from the Martha Graham dance company training with us, and he claims Xtend Barre is one of the most challenging workouts he has ever done. **If you don’t know Martha Graham’s technique, just know Graham dancers are 150% muscle, and if he says Xtend Barre is hard – believe it!**

I’ve been practicing and adding Xtend Barre consistently to my workout regimen for the last month and a half, and the results have been fast! My body is the most toned, strong, and lean it has ever been.  I’ve gained about 5 lbs of muscle within the last two months from switching up my workouts, and adding weight training (not including the weight sculpting you do in Xtend). I’m so excited to be on this journey to becoming an Xtend Barre Instructor. For the last part of the training, all that’s left to do is plan my test-out class, and film a test class for my trainer to review so I can officially start teaching!

My body never looked like this until I found Xtend Barre – and the toning and definition has been really fast!

I really enjoyed myself learning the Xtend Barre technique this weekend, pushing my body to new limits, and meeting new people. Our trainer was also amazing, and I am really fortunate I was able to train under her direction and knowledge.

There is so much to do, and only 17 days left until my first day of work at the American Dance Festival! I can’t believe everything is wrapping up and coming full-steam ahead so quickly! It is all so exciting and exhausting in the best possible way!

I will definitely keep you all updated on my Xtend training, and can’t wait to share this career expansion into the fitness industry with you!
