October Blessings – Reflection

Hi loves!

Remember a while back I mentioned October was going to be a really exciting month?! WELL – exciting doesn’t even scratch the surface. It was a whirlwind to say the least, and here is a rundown of all the amazing things I did and saw this past month!

1. Long2 Dance Company Rehearsals

I began rehearsing with Vanessa Long’s trainee company, and it has been so much fun! I enjoy Vanessa and our other director Zoe, and I feel like we have a strong group of women in our ensemble. Wednesday’s are CRAZY for me teaching fitness in the morning, running to LOWER MANHATTAN for three hours of rehearsal, and then running back to teach dance at night afterwards, but really either way, I end my Wednesdays fulfilled and excited for what’s to come – even though my body usually feels like it is on the verge of collapse. Peep the company sweatshirt 😉

2. My first month as a Certified Xtend Barre Instructor/TRX Training

October was also my first full month as a certified and paid Xtend Barre instructor! I taught a month full of my own classes, taught my first 75 minute barre camp, AND I was trained in a new class – Xtend Suspend (TRX). I’ve been preparing my Xtend TRX workout, and hopefully by December will be teaching the TRX classes at the studio as well! I really love my job as a fitness instructor, and my body has never been stronger.

3. Dorrance Dance Event

Over the summer while I was attending ADF, I met a choreographer I LOVE – Michelle Dorrance! I hung out with her in her dressing room after a show she performed in, and she invited me to an INVITE-ONLY event being held in NYC sometime in October. It was so hush-hush, that she couldn’t tell me what was going to happen, and only told me I had to email her assistant and tell her Michelle invited me to be on the list to get in. This was back in July when I met her, and I went to that event on October 30. It turns out it was a private viewing of a piece they debuted in 2017 as a rehearsal for their season Gala happening the next day (Oct. 31)! It was incredible, and was held in the rotunda at the Guggenheim on the upper east side. I was surrounded by lots of dancers, artists, and dance patrons, so to be invited to something like this was truly a brilliant experience.

4. Halloween Activities

I met some pretty awesome people this month at different parties and events themed around Halloween. It is my favorite holiday, and my favorite season to be spooky, so I had a lot of fun dressing up and creating characters for myself. I also had a lot of fun being able to party with my good friends and let loose a little after so much hustling and working! Since I already posted a picture of my fortune teller makeup, I’ll show you some galaxy makeup I attempted to do for a party I went to with my best friend.

PS: That septum piercing in the photo below is fake 😉

5. MY NEW PIERCINGS

Okay so number five is one of the BEST parts of October! I had two new piercings installed, and I am OBSSESSED WITH THEM! I love them so much to the point where I am actually going to make a whole post about them! 🙂 The post should be up sometime this week! I won’t tell you what I had done (it’s a surprise), but I will tell you I did a LOT of research before I had it done. And I feel like if I make a post or two about my experience, it might help someone else who is contemplating going for it too! Pictures are to come with the post, so stay tuned 🙂

This October had to be the best and busiest I’ve ever experienced. Between running to and from NYC, to modifying my body, to furthering my education and career; this month has been productive and exciting. I am so thrilled to finish out 2018 strong. And I’m SO ready for a new beginning with 2019.

Thanks for reading, xoxo

Flourless, Eggless, Dairy-Free Pumpkin Pancakes for your October Morning!

Hello beautiful internet readers! HAPPY HALLOWEEN! Today I have another recipe for you!

My friend sent me a Snapchat the other day of these delicious vegan pumpkin pancakes she made. I asked her for the recipe, and decided to try them for myself!

The original recipe can be found at The Big Mans World website, but I doctored it a little bit to fit my needs.

pumpkinpancakes1.jpg

Ingredients

  1. 1 cup rolled oats (I used flattened quick oats and it worked well!)
  2. 1/4 cup milk of choice (I used coconut milk) **I found this recipe needs an extra 1/4 of milk, making the final ratio a 1/2 cup of your milk of choice**
  3. 1/2 cup pumpkin puree (I used organic)
  4. 1/2 tsp of cinnamon
  5. 1/2 tsp of pumpkin spice (or you can mix equal parts cinnamon, ginger, and cloves to create your own)
  6. 1 tbsp of baking powder
  7. 1 tbsp of apple cider vinegar
  8. 1 tbsp of sticky sweetener of choice (I used maple syrup, but you can use honey or any other syrup)
  9. 1/4 cup of chocolate chips (totally optional but totally worth it)

Instructions

  1. Add all of the dry ingredients and blend them together. I did this first as it created almost a flour-like base for all of my wet ingredients.
  2. Add all of the wet ingredients to the dry mixture and blend together. I used my NutriBullet, but if you don’t have a blender you can use a hand mixer or stand-up mixer. Stir in chocolate chips.
  3. Let the mixture sit for 3 to 5 minutes, and use an oil or fat of choice to grease a heating skillet. I used coconut oil because I love it, and find it keeps my pans greasy better than a vegetable oil.
  4. When the pan is hot, use your 1/4 cup to measure out a 1/4 cup of batter and pour into the pan. You will need to move the batter around to flatten it out a bit.
  5. Cook for 3 to 5 minutes on each side for a more traditional pancake consistency.  The original recipe says to cook for 1 to 2 minutes, and when I did this for my first pancake it was a little too wet for my liking still. Cooking the pancakes for a bit longer per side gave them a traditional pancake shape and consistency. When I saw the edges turning golden brown I knew to flip them. **Make note when cooking longer not to burn them**
  6. When done, plate them and serve with your favorite toppings, fruits, nuts, etc. And don’t forget your coffee!

Voilà! You can now enjoy healthy, vegan delicious pumpkin pancakes!

If you have any leftover pancakes, individually wrap them in foil or plastic wrap and store in the freezer! When you are in a hurry in the morning, you can take them out of the freezer and let them defrost for a few minutes and eat them cold, pop them into the toaster and toast them like bread, or reheat them in a skillet!

I hope you enjoy this recipe, and I hope you try it for yourself! They are so delicious and easy to make, and also super filling/satisfying!

Hope you enjoy the spookiest day of the year!!

Evil (Mis)Fortune Teller Halloween Makeup!

Hi all!!

This October, I knew I wanted to challenge myself and create a really fun look for Halloween! I decided on an evil (mis)fortune teller who is crying because of what she sees coming! Dark and sad has kind of been my aesthetic lately anyway, so why not manifest it into some fun Halloween makeup? *Laugh cries*

My sister threw a huge Halloween costume party last weekend, so I actually recreated this look twice! The images I will post below are from the first time I tried the makeup. I really liked the way it came out! I don’t have many pics from the night of the actual party, but I will post a picture from Snapchat I took with my brother from the party night since I did it slightly different than my first attempt. Nevertheless, here was the result! I’M OBSESSED!

I used all of the products listed in the Prepping for Halloween 2018! article I wrote earlier this month! I L.O.V.E. Wet N Wild’s Fantasy Maker’s collection, and I adore Wal-Mart for having such affordable prices on everything Halloween to make the holiday accessible to everyone! In addition to the products I listed in my Halloween prep article, I used eyeshadows from the Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Palette, and the MorphexJaclyn Hill palette.

I was in a nice fall sweater in the above photos, but for my actual costume I borrowed some bohemian pants from my neighbor, wore a black top, and wore two more necklaces that had crystals and coins on them. I also added two more gems underneath my eyes, and some more fake blood running from my actual eyes. I curled my hair and wore it half up and half down instead of all the way up like it is picture above. On my hips, I wore a purple coin wrap! The photos below are from the second time I tried this look.

20181027_154659.jpg

I even bought a fake septum piercing for this costume which you can kind of see in this image of me the night of the party. My sister’s party was so fun! There was a ton of food, lots of adult beverages, and her house was steeped in spooky decorations. There was a costume contest, and there was talk of mine being in the top three of most original! There was no official end count for costume prizes because… ya know… apple cider jungle juice had everyone a little distracted.

Last but not least, here is an image of me from the party that night posing with my best friend! You can kind of see the gist of the whole ensemble!

20181021_155441.jpg

October is such a MOOD for me! I love it so much. Tonight I am headed off to a party with my best friend, and I am going as a galaxy!! This look should be really fun to do and I can’t wait to play with some more face paint and glitter! I will definitely take lots of selfies if I really like it, and show you all the final result!

How do you like this look? The makeup is so fun to play with, and the costume itself was free because it was my clothes and clothes I borrowed from friends! Feel free to recreate this look if you like it, and let me know what you think!

xoxo Happy Hauntings!

Pumpkin Muffins and Pre-Autumn Feels

Hi beautiful people!

The past few days the temperature has plumeted from the heat wave we just went through here on the East Coast, and although the temperatures are still in the upper 60s and 70s, it has been giving me fall vibes! 🙂 Now to be clear, I am in NO WAY ready for summer to end, however, as my long-time readers know, fall is my favorite season! The first cool weather we have had this summer, and I was craving PUMPKIN! So naturally, I made pumpkin muffins as I watched reruns of American Horror Story.

pumpkinmuffins1

I used a simple recipe you can find at this link Libby’s Pumpkin Muffins. I substituted the 1/2 cup of vegetable oil for a 1/2 cup of unsweetened applesauce. I’ve been doing this when I bake lately because unsweetened applesauce is a substitute for vegetable oil, and has a 1:1 ratio – meaning there are no conversions to be done, and you cut the fat down significantly in your recipe! I also used a 1/2 cup of orange juice instead of a 1/2 cup of water to give my muffins a hint of citrus!

pumpkinmuffins2

PS: Don’t mind the slits in the tops of the muffins – I stuck a knife in the top of them to make sure they were cooked thoroughly before I took them out of the pan

These muffins are delicious, and next time I think I’m going to put chocolate chips in them! This rescipe yielded about 28 muffins! ❤ Right out of the oven with butter they are tasty, and they are also yummy toasted with butter, and with coffee in the morning! If you are feeling fall vibes as well and craving the tastes of the season, these muffins are easy to make and will satisfy your fall-flavor craving while you soak up the sunrays of late summer!

What have you been baking this summer? Has the weather been feeling like fall to you? Let me know!

xoxo

Halloweekend

Hello lovely readers! I have been M.I.A. lately, and I apologize for that. I shouldn’t be letting my personal issues interfere with my blogging, but it has been happening and I apologize. I haven’t done anything autumn-y or fall-related the whole month of October (I know – I was so excited when October began and then I didn’t do anything fall related), however, the last 4 days have been very fun with celebrating my favorite day of the year – HALLOWEEN! My college threw a party on Thursday the 29th, and this weekend I drove to my best friend’s college and we celebrated actual Halloween on her campus! It was definitely a tiring last four days, but I had a lot of fun with my friends. I never have the opportunity to go out, so I was excited to have two different Halloween related events to attend for this weekend.

On Thursday, I went to my school event dressed as a lion! Our mascot is a female lion, and I wanted something simple that I could play around with some fun makeup! I think my makeup turned out great, and I wish my front facing camera was better quality so you could see how it turned out. I tried to edit the picture the best I could, but here is my lioness makeup!

Lioness

I’d like to believe I was queen of the jungle on Thursday night!

I also had lion ears, and my hair ended up deflating by the end of the night, but it still turned out really nicely I think! The party at my school was very good, and I danced all night with my other fellow dance majors! Here is a picture of my friend and I – she was dressed in a onesie pajama set because she was dressed as a baby doll for Halloween (which makes sense because she is only 4’6″!, haha!):

College

A fellow dance major and I

At my other friend’s college yesterday, I went as a vampire! I was so upset because I had spent a lot of time doing my hair, makeup, and my bite wound (my first attempt at special effects makeup), and the vampire teeth I bought (Scarecrow brand mini deluxe fangs) did not work at all!! The glue mixture was not right and I followed the instructions down to a T, but they would not stay in my mouth. I unfortunately had to go without wearing them (which sucks because I paid $20 for them), but I think my makeup alone was still just as effective! The vampire fangs would have thrown the outfit over the top, but I wasn’t going to let the stupid teeth ruin my night!

Vampiress

Before I left to my friend’s college!

I have a natural ombre going on right now since I have been growing out my old hair color for the past year and a half. It worked to my advantage though, because I sprayed my hair with temporary red hair dye, and it turned out to look pretty awesome! I took this photo before I left to drive to my friend’s college. I went to buy gas before I started my trip, and the gas station attendant was really shocked when I pulled up!

Some liquid latex, eye shadow, and of course fake blood!

Some liquid latex, eye shadow, and of course fake blood!

I unfortunately didn’t get around to drinking any apple cider this month, but yesterday I was able to eat some Halloween candy (in the spirit of the holiday of course), and I was able to play with some fake blood which definitely made me feel like I was in the Halloween spirit! Halloween is my favorite holiday, and I cannot believe today is November 1! Now the wonderful winter holidays are upon us! I can’t wait to see how the last 6 weeks of my semester go, and I will definitely be trying to update more often!

I hope you all had a stellar Halloween yesterday! What did you dress up as? Let me know!!
