Hello Leaps readers, how are you doing this evening? I am doing quite well, however, I am a bit stressed out with my remaining finals and assignments that need to be accomplished by this Friday. But obviously, the smart thing to do is something completely unrelated to college course work, so I want to do a little comparison between my favorite drugstore mascaras for you all!
I love L’Oreal mascara, and my favorites include their Voluminous line. More specifically, I love the Voluminous Original, Voluminous Miss Manga, and the Voluminous Miss Manga Rock. I use each of these almost every day.
There are a few differences between these three mascaras, and they each apply a bit differently than their other Voluminous counterparts.
Miss Manga Rock, Voluminous Original, and Miss Manga
First of all, the Voluminous Original (non-waterproof) mascara is my go-to ultra-favorite drug store buy. Its $5.89 a tube, and the wand is bristled (made of fibers not plastic). The formula for this mascara is superior to other brands I’ve tried. It doesn’t flake, smudge, smear, or run! It stays looking fresh all day, and is super easy to remove with baby wipes, makeup remover pads, or even face wash. I purchase this mascara in “blackest black”, but they do sell it in “brown-black” and “black”. It adds volume just as the name suggests, and really makes my eyes pop! I’ve tried the waterproof version of this mascara and it’s alright, but waterproof mascara tends to hurt/burn my eyelids when applying it, so I use the Voluminous Original waterproof mascara sparingly.
When L’Oreal released Voluminous Miss Manga, I was so excited to purchase it! I’m not a manga reader (although I will admit I own and have read the first Sailor Moon manga… but it’s Sailor Moon and she was my childhood hero), but the commercial for this mascara and the colorful tube and fun shape of the tube really made me want to try it! Usagi knows how I feel when my eyelashes are on point
Especially with my love for Voluminous Original, I knew this one had to be good. The wand is tapered and made of the fiber bristles (not the plastic ones), and the tube is the pink one featured in the photo above. I’ve had this tube for a while (it’s definitely time for a new one), so the picture doesn’t do it justice! This mascara lengthens, and definitely adds volume as the name suggests. And it lengthens my lashes so long, I’ve had multiple people over the years ask me if my lashes were fake, and of course I’d reply with a “no”. I’m proud of the work I put into my lashes! The length though, is what gives the mascara the name “Miss Manga” because manga characters tend to have over-exaggerated features, including larger eyes and longer lashes! This mascara has me wanting to fight evil by moonlight, and win love by daylight (Sailor Moon reference), and I can do all of this knowing my lashes look totally fierce (thank you L’Oreal <3). And what is super awesome, is this mascara stays in place, doesn’t smudge or smear, and is also easy to remove.
Finally, there is Voluminous Miss Manga Rock! When the commercial for this spinoff of the original Miss Manga came out this summer, I was totally into trying it out (Take a look at the commercial for Miss Manga Rock here Voluminous Miss Manga Rock advertisement). Then I realized it had a plastic bristled wand, and I really dislike plastic bristled wands, so I decided to not spend my money on it. I have found with other brands (like CoverGirl), plastic wands don’t lengthen or volumize my lashes. Nevertheless, the other day I wrote that I picked up a few things from Target, and this mascara happened to be on sale. I decided to try to waterproof version since my boyfriend was coming home for Thanksgiving (cue sobs of joy), so I needed something to sustain my waterworks. I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised with Voluminous Miss Manga Rock! This brand did not sting my lashes like the Voluminous Original waterproof formula did, it lengthens, AND adds tremendous volume! Especially on my lower lashes, this mascara deposits a perfect proportion of mascara, and it’s waterproof so I can exercise without worrying about my sweat smearing it, or my reunion tears ruining my eye makeup. Additionally, as the commercial suggests, it does have a tendency to deposit the mascara on your lashes, forming them in the shape of “punky tips”. This is a cool look that I have yet to try, but usually when this happens I go back over my lashes with the wand and they separate. You can also separate the lashes by putting on another coat of mascara with a different wand if you don’t want the punky lash look. In general, this mascara is moon crystal power in a tube, and I’m sure Sailor Moon would recommend this mascara to look good while you go kick ass!
I would recommend these three mascaras to anyone looking to lengthen and add volume to their lashes. It is perfect for day or night looks, and if you’re like me and apply 489305 coats of mascara when you do your makeup, it is also cost-effective since it has a drug store price tag. I swear by these brands, and I hope if you haven’t tried these you go to the store and give it a go!
Have a wonderful evening everyone!
