New Colourpop Purchase!

It has been a minute since I’ve ordered any makeup, let alone makeup from Colourpop! I bought some pretty products I’d like to share with you guys because I love them! I haven’t had much time or reason lately to put eyeshadow on, but I did end up buying five different eyeshadows – four SuperShock formulas, and one pressed-powder formula. I also picked up a new lipstick which has been the only color I’ve been wearing lately!

So the four SuperShocks I bought are Truth, I Heart This, Ritz, and Ladybird. The pressed powder eyeshadow is Glass Bull which I’ve been wanting to try FOREVER. The lipstick is the KathleenLights x Colourpop Scorpio Moon lux lipstick.

Colors from left to right: Scorpio Moon lip, Glass Bull, Ladybird, I Heart This, Truth, Ritz

Truth SuperShock Eyeshadow

Truth is a satin finish, neutral light beige. This color is great for that “no makeup” makeup look, but also can be used as a base or can be paired with other colors.

I Heart This SuperShock Eyeshadow

I Heart This is a taupe with silver ultra-glitter. I love this color because it’s sparkly, but also subtle.

Ritz SuperShock Eyeshadow

Ritz is a sheer nude with silver glitter. It has a warmer undertone to it’s pigmentation.

Ladybird SuperShock Eyeshadow

Ladybird is a soft ivory with silver glitter. This is great by itself or as a topper.

GlassBull Pressed Powder Eyeshadow

Glass Bull is a lavender, icy-blue duochrome! It is stunning, metallic, and very pigmented.

Scorpio Moon Lux Lipstick

Scorpio Moon is a plummy rose color! It looks very subtle on my skin tone, but adds a beautiful pop of color. It doesn’t make my teeth look yellow because it has a cool undertone. This has become a new favorite of mine, and the formula is so smooth! I’ve been wearing it to auditions, and it’s a perfect audition lipstick.

I can’t wait to wear all of these colors. As you can probably infer, I bought a bunch of neutral colors. I’ve been going for a more subtle look to my makeup routine. I feel prettiest now without putting on heavy eyeshadow.

I hope you enjoyed this post, and if you were curious about swatches for these colors, I hope it helped! Enjoy the rest of your Sunday!

Happy New Year and a Whole30 Challenge!

Hello lovelies,

I took some time away from writing the last few weeks to focus on my family, friends, and the holidays. The end of the year is always so hectic, as is the beginning of the next one. I am preparing to hit the ground running this January with classes, auditions, adventures, a new job, and new experiences, and there is not a lot of time for me to relax it seems!

Anyway, I had a lovely Christmas, and for my family this was the first Christmas that actually felt like a true Christmas in a long time. It was just my family, my siblings’ significant others, and my grandma, and it was perfect. We ate delicious food (some of which I prepared), including home made ginger bread I made with my dad. I received some very generous presents, some of which I am going to review on here hopefully sometime this month. 🙂

I loved my makeup on Christmas Day! My aunt’s boyfriend even complimented me on it.

I spent New Years Eve running around Manhattan and NYC with some friends who live there. I had a great time, and it was my first time spending New Year’s Eve in NYC since 2005 when my family went in to see the ball drop! I met some friends (old and new) at an Indian restaurant, and then we took a cab over to Industry City in Brooklyn for a NYE party!

I actually had to teach fitness this morning. I wasn’t drinking much last night because I knew I was going to be up late and had to be functional for work, but I still had a great time, made it to work on time, and did my job well! I also was kissed at midnight for the first time in a few years, and it meant a lot to me. So if last night/early this morning is any indication with how the rest of 2019 is going to go, count me in for ALL OF IT.

My last/newest endeavor is today I began the Whole30 challenge. It is basically a dietary plan that cuts out all anti-inflammatory foods as a “reset” to your body, taste buds, cravings, etc. No dairy, wheat/grains, corn, seeds, legumes, processed sugar, artificial sugars, and alcohol. Basically what foods are “approved” are lean meats, veggies, fruits, tree nuts, and potatoes. I am not following this diet verbatim because I am very active, and I do need some grain carbohydrates throughout the day just to keep my energy levels up. However, I will be doing a check in with this after the month is over to see how I feel, and see how I did!

I am so thrilled 2018 is FINALLY behind me. There were a lot of amazing memories in 2018 that overshadowed a lot of darkness, so I am grateful for all of the change and growth 2018 brought me. Now, however, I am prepared for a bountiful 2019 where I hope to see some pay off with all of the seeds I’ve planted and watered in 2018. 2019 Julia is determined, better trained, more confident, and more self-aware, and I look forward to what’s to come.

October Blessings – Reflection

Hi loves!

Remember a while back I mentioned October was going to be a really exciting month?! WELL – exciting doesn’t even scratch the surface. It was a whirlwind to say the least, and here is a rundown of all the amazing things I did and saw this past month!

1. Long2 Dance Company Rehearsals

I began rehearsing with Vanessa Long’s trainee company, and it has been so much fun! I enjoy Vanessa and our other director Zoe, and I feel like we have a strong group of women in our ensemble. Wednesday’s are CRAZY for me teaching fitness in the morning, running to LOWER MANHATTAN for three hours of rehearsal, and then running back to teach dance at night afterwards, but really either way, I end my Wednesdays fulfilled and excited for what’s to come – even though my body usually feels like it is on the verge of collapse. Peep the company sweatshirt 😉

2. My first month as a Certified Xtend Barre Instructor/TRX Training

October was also my first full month as a certified and paid Xtend Barre instructor! I taught a month full of my own classes, taught my first 75 minute barre camp, AND I was trained in a new class – Xtend Suspend (TRX). I’ve been preparing my Xtend TRX workout, and hopefully by December will be teaching the TRX classes at the studio as well! I really love my job as a fitness instructor, and my body has never been stronger.

3. Dorrance Dance Event

Over the summer while I was attending ADF, I met a choreographer I LOVE – Michelle Dorrance! I hung out with her in her dressing room after a show she performed in, and she invited me to an INVITE-ONLY event being held in NYC sometime in October. It was so hush-hush, that she couldn’t tell me what was going to happen, and only told me I had to email her assistant and tell her Michelle invited me to be on the list to get in. This was back in July when I met her, and I went to that event on October 30. It turns out it was a private viewing of a piece they debuted in 2017 as a rehearsal for their season Gala happening the next day (Oct. 31)! It was incredible, and was held in the rotunda at the Guggenheim on the upper east side. I was surrounded by lots of dancers, artists, and dance patrons, so to be invited to something like this was truly a brilliant experience.

4. Halloween Activities

I met some pretty awesome people this month at different parties and events themed around Halloween. It is my favorite holiday, and my favorite season to be spooky, so I had a lot of fun dressing up and creating characters for myself. I also had a lot of fun being able to party with my good friends and let loose a little after so much hustling and working! Since I already posted a picture of my fortune teller makeup, I’ll show you some galaxy makeup I attempted to do for a party I went to with my best friend.

PS: That septum piercing in the photo below is fake 😉

5. MY NEW PIERCINGS

Okay so number five is one of the BEST parts of October! I had two new piercings installed, and I am OBSSESSED WITH THEM! I love them so much to the point where I am actually going to make a whole post about them! 🙂 The post should be up sometime this week! I won’t tell you what I had done (it’s a surprise), but I will tell you I did a LOT of research before I had it done. And I feel like if I make a post or two about my experience, it might help someone else who is contemplating going for it too! Pictures are to come with the post, so stay tuned 🙂

This October had to be the best and busiest I’ve ever experienced. Between running to and from NYC, to modifying my body, to furthering my education and career; this month has been productive and exciting. I am so thrilled to finish out 2018 strong. And I’m SO ready for a new beginning with 2019.

Thanks for reading, xoxo

Evil (Mis)Fortune Teller Halloween Makeup!

Hi all!!

This October, I knew I wanted to challenge myself and create a really fun look for Halloween! I decided on an evil (mis)fortune teller who is crying because of what she sees coming! Dark and sad has kind of been my aesthetic lately anyway, so why not manifest it into some fun Halloween makeup? *Laugh cries*

My sister threw a huge Halloween costume party last weekend, so I actually recreated this look twice! The images I will post below are from the first time I tried the makeup. I really liked the way it came out! I don’t have many pics from the night of the actual party, but I will post a picture from Snapchat I took with my brother from the party night since I did it slightly different than my first attempt. Nevertheless, here was the result! I’M OBSESSED!

I used all of the products listed in the Prepping for Halloween 2018! article I wrote earlier this month! I L.O.V.E. Wet N Wild’s Fantasy Maker’s collection, and I adore Wal-Mart for having such affordable prices on everything Halloween to make the holiday accessible to everyone! In addition to the products I listed in my Halloween prep article, I used eyeshadows from the Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Palette, and the MorphexJaclyn Hill palette.

I was in a nice fall sweater in the above photos, but for my actual costume I borrowed some bohemian pants from my neighbor, wore a black top, and wore two more necklaces that had crystals and coins on them. I also added two more gems underneath my eyes, and some more fake blood running from my actual eyes. I curled my hair and wore it half up and half down instead of all the way up like it is picture above. On my hips, I wore a purple coin wrap! The photos below are from the second time I tried this look.

I even bought a fake septum piercing for this costume which you can kind of see in this image of me the night of the party. My sister’s party was so fun! There was a ton of food, lots of adult beverages, and her house was steeped in spooky decorations. There was a costume contest, and there was talk of mine being in the top three of most original! There was no official end count for costume prizes because… ya know… apple cider jungle juice had everyone a little distracted.

Last but not least, here is an image of me from the party that night posing with my best friend! You can kind of see the gist of the whole ensemble!

October is such a MOOD for me! I love it so much. Tonight I am headed off to a party with my best friend, and I am going as a galaxy!! This look should be really fun to do and I can’t wait to play with some more face paint and glitter! I will definitely take lots of selfies if I really like it, and show you all the final result!

How do you like this look? The makeup is so fun to play with, and the costume itself was free because it was my clothes and clothes I borrowed from friends! Feel free to recreate this look if you like it, and let me know what you think!

xoxo Happy Hauntings!

Prepping for Halloween 2018!

Hi loves!

IT’S OCTOBER!! AKA: THE BEST MONTH OF THE YEAR! I am so excited it’s autumn, and finally time for Halloween fun! I wasn’t sure how I was going to top last year’s Halloween makeup/costume. If you recall, I was a “Hooked Siren” – a glam mermaid with a bloody face wound, complete with a real fish hook “stuck” in my face. If you didn’t read that post last year, click on my “related” link to view some pictures!

Anyway, I didn’t know how I would top the mermaid look, BUT I think I will be able to top it this year! I decided I would be a glam-gore fortune teller! I am excited because I can take this idea in so many directions. If you look up any sort of fortune teller makeup tutorial on YouTube, there are so many amazing variations of the look! I am not sure if I want to go the way of a super creepy, bloody possessed fortune teller, or go the way of a glam fortune teller who cries blood from the horror she sees! UGH! The possibilities are endless!

Today before work, I stopped at Wal-Mart to pick up a few items to help complete my look! Now I love Spirit Halloween (one of the huge Halloween retailers in NJ), HOWEVER, Wal-Mart has amazing deals on all of the same makeup and accessories you can find at a Halloween store. And to make it better, Wal-Mart has an amazing selection of actual costumes at a fraction of the cost of a popular Halloween specialty store. Nonetheless, Wal-Mart didn’t carry anything specific to a fortune teller costume, but they did have some amazing Wet N Wild products and sale jewlery that will help me transform for my Halloween parties!

I bought some new liquid latex since I’ve had my other bottle for a few years now. Additionally, I bought a Wet N Wild multi-use white face pencil! This will be useful for me if I decide to draw a third eye or moon on my forehead. I found the choker set on clearance in the jewelry department for $3. The black top choker has a single gold coin attached to it, and the bottom charmed choker has a few different coins and bits that are reminscent of a fortune teller too.

20181008_133148.jpg

I also purchased this Wet N Wild brand glitter palette in the color scheme “Heavy Metals”. It includes silver, gold, black, red, and copper which I think would fit well with my theme since they are all pretty neutral. I’ve never used any of the Wet N Wild glitter palettes, and hope it works well. This is a part of their Fantasy Makers collection/line they release every fall before Halloween.

In the background you can see some Wet N Wild stick-on face gems I am also planning on using somewhere on my face. Possibly outlining the tops of my eyebrows with them, or using them to decorate other parts of my body.

I borrowed some clothes and costume pieces from my neighbors, so I am basically set! All I need are some hoop earrings, false lashes, and face paint and I will be ready to rock and roll! I have a big Halloween party I’ll be attending on the 20th, and I really want to show off my makeup when I go!

What are you being for Halloween? I would love to hear your ideas down below!

xoxo
