Re-Inventing Myself for Year 25

Hi readers!

It’s been a long time since I posted, and believe it or not, a lot more has changed since I received my acceptance letter into graduate school! I landed an amazing job, I re-built my wardrobe so it isn’t just athleisure, and I adopted a furry friend! In addition, I changed my hair style and color, and have been waking up genuinely happy for a consistent period of time (which is probably the longest stretch of waking up geuninely happy I’ve ever experienced). Additionally, I turned another year older, and am officially a quarter of a century old! Many changes have happened, and I’m sure many changes will continue to occur. But I wanted to let you know how my summer has been going, and how these changes have been woven into my day-to-day life.

Let me begin with my job! I am a mental health aide/recovery assistant at a residential eating disorder program for adolescent girls. I’ve been wanting to work at this facility for a year now, and finally landed the job back in May! I have learned A LOT already from working there for two months, and I know my experience at this facility will really benefit me with all of the counseling theory and training I will receive in graduate school. The job is super demanding, and really difficult at times handling so many patients, but I really appreciate my opportunity, and I love the facility I work at because it is absolutely beautiful! As someone who has recovered from anorexia nervosa, this is a very special way for me to utilize my experience with the disease to help young women.

Next, now that I have a full-time job, it has required me to buy clothes that are not just athletic clothing since I am no longer dancing or teaching four times a week. This, in turn, has allowed me to afford buying some new clothes simply for day-to-day, and social outings also, and for once I feel like I have a “style” to the clothing I wear. It’s been really fun playing with prints and colors, and the patients I work with have told me I have a very “bohemian” flare to my style, which is cool! I haven’t been choosing a bohemian style of clothes in particular, but it’s nice to know my clothing has a style coordination of some sort.

On my off days (which are during the week), I have been going down to my family’s beach house and meeting up with my good friend from undergraduate school. We’ve been going to the beach, and the boardwalk, and shopping! It’s been really fun to have some girl time, and also be TAN! I’ve not been this tan in such a long time, and I really love how sunkissed I look nowadays. I think the influx of vitamin D has been helping me feel so happy all of the time!

As you probably saw in my post about graduate school, I dyed my hair red. Then two weeks ago when I got a haircut for the first time since March, I decided to cut my bangs which was also an impulsive decision. But I really love them! I’ve been craving changes, and changing my hair is a really simple, and fun way to do it. I also feel like I’m truly starting to get to know myself in an authentic way, and my hair definitely represents this process.

Probably one of the cooler and more drastic changes I’ve made is I adopted a cat!! She is a tortoise shell colored cat named Sally, and she is super sweet. I’ve only ever owned dogs, so learning cat behavior is a tad anxiety-inducing, but also pretty cool because she is a gorgeous cat, and pretty mild-tempered for being a rescue and never being in a home with dogs before. I am looking forward to getting to know her more and learning her likes and dislikes so she can have a happy, and safe forever home with me.

Finally, I’ve been catching up with a lot of my cousins on my mom’s side of the family, which is awesome because I really enjoy my cousins and wish they lived closer. Most of them live on the West Coast or near the West Coast. But technology and social media have been fun ways to keep in touch and catch up on our lives amid this COVID-19 crisis!

Something else I’ve realized through the last two months was I really am not in the headspace to start dating again. I spent most of 2019 trying to find someone to date, and even had a boyfriend for half of a year, but we were at different points in our lives and decided to end things. I am working full time now, assimilating my rescue cat into my family’s home, and I am going to start graduate school full-time in about six weeks (which means I will have NO days off). On my off time, I want to spend it down the shore, or with my family. I officially deleted all of my dating apps/accounts, and after a year and a half of online disappointments, I am going to give digital dating and dating in general a rest. I’ve realized that being single at 25 years old is pretty “normal”, and I am definitely in no rush to “settle down” or get married.

So, I’m devoting the rest of 2020 (well, indefinitely) to myself and my goals and working hard and saving money. I will practice self-care and have fun when I can have it, and focus on what’s important – my degree and my family and my job. I have a lot of goals, and if someone told me this is what my life would look like at 25, I wouldn’t have believed them. But as I mentioned before, I’ve been waking up genuinely excited for life and happy for the first time in my whole life. I never remember being this consistently happy in my 25 years on this Earth. But who knew through this pandemic and all of these life-altering changes I would find and experience actual happiness for the first time ever?

I hope your summers are going well and hope you are finding joy in every day, and something to be grateful for. Keep working hard, staying positive, and manifesting your goals.

XO

Marshalls Haul & Try-On

Hello internet loves!

Yesterday was Saturday, and I officially deemed yesterday, “Treat Yourself Saturday”! I’ve been going through a rough time, and I decided to go to Marshalls and try to find some new sneakers, and new clothes for my summer at the American Dance Festival! Here are some of the awesome clothes/shoes I found while I shopped! πŸ™‚
SKECHERS KNIT AIR-COOLED MEMORY FOAM SNEAKERS

These sneakers are ADORABLE. I love that they don’t have laces, yet they are snug and supportive of my ankle and foot. They are light weight, and would be great for treadmill running, exercise, and everyday running to and from my different jobs/rehearsals.
DANSKIN LEGGINGS

OMGosh! I’ve been DYING for a pair of Danskins ever since Jenna Dewan Tatum became a spokesperson for them (lame I know, BUT I love her, soo…). As a teenager, I bought Danskin shorts and yoga pants from Wal-Mart, but the Danskin line in Wal-Mart is not the same as the leggings you get from the online store, and these are the ones from the online store! They are high-waisted and long in length which fit my legs so nicely! The compression and shaping are great, and they are not see-through at all. I LOVE them! They also make the booty look good, so that is not a bad feature either πŸ™‚
CROCHET 90-DEGREE BY REFLEX ATHLETIC CAPRI

Please ignore the stains on the mirror, they are paint and not makeup or anything. Just paint spots that won’t come off!

These are so cool, I had to buy them! Not only do they fit well, and are not see-through, they have this super cool design on them that is super unique. I’ve never seen athletic leggings like this before, and I had to have them. They were super affordable, too which makes it even better!
ACTIVE USA CROCHET BLUE OFF-THE-SHOULDER TOP

20180428_160907.jpg

I really need to update my actual wardrobe. As you can see, I buy a lot of athletic clothes, and a lot of my “normal” clothes I also use for class and rehearsal. I need more blouses for going out and looking like I’m not coming from the gym, so my best friend picked out this top for me. It is such a beautiful shade of blue, and the off-the-shoulder silhouette is very summery and flattering.

I’m so excited to wear all of these beautiful clothes and shoes! πŸ™‚ Marshalls is great for finding great style deals, and for buying cute and lasting athletic clothing that doesn’t break the bank. Marshalls also always has great deals on Skechers if you want comfortable athletic shoes at an affordable price tag!

Talk to you guys soon, xoxo

Discount Dance Fall Order

Hi beauties!

Today I wanted to share with you my recent purchase from DiscountDance.com! Discount Dance is an online store that has literally everything and anything you need as a dancer. Leotards, tights, Therabands, accessories, costumes, rosin – you name it and they probably have it! I’ve written about Discount Dance before on my blog (see Dance Christmas Wishlist), so if you are a dancer and you haven’t visited their online store, I suggest you do so! They have great prices for quality dancewear.

This past week, they had a super awesome promotional code for free shipping and 15% off of your order, so I ordered some new tights and a new leotard! As I’ve raved before, I LOVE Natalie Dancewear. For real if I could be an affiliate for Natalie I would! Their leotards are EXTREMELY well made, long lasting, and super comfortable. Not to mention, they are great for dancers who have boobs. Their leotards compliment, support, and shape bigger breasts as opposed to making them look squished or not being supportive enough.

I actually own this leotard in a different two-toned color scheme (it is two different purple colors), and I love it so much that I bought it in Navy and Light Pink. This picture doesn’t do it justice – the colors POP and look so nice together! I bought my first one of this style leotard at the beginning of sophomore year of college, and it still works as well and looks brand new today which is over two years later!

Next, I wanted to try the new Theatricals tights. First of all, I’ve LOVED Theatricals tights since I discovered them freshman year of college. They had this INCREDIBLE elastic waistband that did not dig into your sides and were super flattering to wear. Unfortunately, Theatricals is no longer making them that way, and instead have released a new version of their convertible tights that I wanted to try. They rid of the elastic waistband, and replaced it with a knit waistband similar to Body Wrappers tights.

Unfortunately, I tried these tights with the new waistband on and I do NOT like them. They are super soft like the old style, but the waist band digs into my sides and is not flattering to wear over or under my leotard. I bought a pink and a black pair thinking I’d like them, and unfortunately I do not see myself wearing them often.

If you are looking for a new leotard to purchase, I highly suggest Natalie dancewear. They are incredible and super cute/stylish for class and rehearsal. As for the Theatricals new tights, I’d say pass if you loved the old style like I did!

Vera Bradley Order – 4th of July Deal

Hello Leaps readers!

I hope you are having a wonderful evening. It is late, but I’ve been collecting some fun mail and I wanted to share with you some awesome stuff I’ve hauled. First I’m going to talk about my Vera Bradley order, and soon I will post about my recent Ulta online order!

Vera Bradley was running an awesome sale for Independence Day – 50% off their sale section AND free shipping. I also had a 25% off birthday coupon Vera Bradley sent me in the mail a few weeks ago, and had a $15.00 Vera Bradley gift card my brother gave me for Christmas, so I figured I should take advantage of the sale and buy myself a new bag and wallet. My last three or four pocketbooks have been Vera Bradley, and although I ADORE all of her colorful prints (I probably have 14 Vera Bradley bags/backpacks/duffles, etc.), I really wanted a solid colored bag this time in a crossbody style – something that looked a little more “grown-up” for my 21st.

wp-1468466795746.png

Lucky for me, all of their “Plum” colored pocketbooks were 50% off (and we all know how much I love purple!), so I ordered the “On the Go Crossbody”! This bag is originally priced $88.00, and it was on sale for $44.00 before my coupon or gift card. Then I added the “Trifold Wallet” in the print “Rosewood” to my cart. I love the colors and print of this! The wallet has the same plum color in it’s print/design as the bag does. This wallet is originally $42.00, and was on sale for $21.00, before my coupon or gift card.

Altogether, this would have totaled $65.00 for the on sale price, or $130.00 if I bought both of them at their regular price. But after my coupon, free shipping, and my $15.00 gift card, I paid $37.16 after tax! Β It was such a steal, I didn’t feel bad spending the money on myself! Plus – look at them ❀ They are too pretty to pass up!

I really love this bag, and it is very well made. The cross body strap is thick (which I like), and it is adjustable! The wallet is spacious and forced me to clean out my other two wallets (which was beneficial for me – I found out a lot of old gift cards still had money on them!). The wallet also has an awesome license display inside which can show off my new, updated 21 yr old license ;).

I am so happy with my new Vera Bradley merchandise, and it really is my FAVORITE pocketbook brand. I don’t know how someone can’t love her stuff because she has styles, prints, and colors for everyone! I’m really excited to start using this bag, and I hope you all sign up for their email list so you can get in on their awesome sale and clearance deals!

Do you like Vera Bradley? Do you own any of her bags? What’s your favorite?

Until next time loves!

Happy 21st Birthday to Me & 240th Birthday to America

Hey everybody!

Sorry I went MIA this past weekend. My boyfriend came home for a very quick visit for the July 4th weekend! I turned 21 on July 3rd, and it was also my mother’s birthday (yes, we were born on the same day!), so there was a lot going on between running to and from the airport, dinners, and family events!

I had the best time this weekend, and it was nice my boyfriend was in our home state for the first time in 7 months! We went to hot yoga with his mom, went to the Melting Pot with my family, and I had my first legal drinks! The night ended with my sister, my boyfriend, and I being locked out of my house, so we had to climb through a window! It was definitely a 21st birthday full of shenanigans. Β I also received a lot of generous and beautiful presents, so I will definitely post a birthday present post to show you all some fun makeup, yoga and gym gear, and alcohol related presents I received as gifts!

Thank you for being patient with my blog posts, and if you liked the outfit I wore for my 21st in the picture below, I will list where I bought the different pieces of my outfit!
