The Inspiration Behind my Blog and Etsy Shop

Hello beautiful internet people!

I wanted to tell you all a story this evening about the inspiration behind Julia’s Leaps of Faith! There are so many reasons why I started my blog, but the blog it is today is completely different than the blog it began as, and the direction my blog is headed now has a definite backstory I think is important to share! There are two influences that helped me shape Julia’s Leaps of Faith into what it is today, so here we go!

As a child/teenager, I danced a lot at my local studio. I was taking seven classes a week, and to be honest I was no where near my peers in the amount of classes they were enrolled in. Truth is – dance lessons are super expensive, especially for parents of three who are paying for three childrens’ extracurricular activities, sports, and living expenses. I could not afford to dance as much as my peers, but in order to continue dancing as much as I was, I partook in a workstudy program at my studio. I student-taught/assisted classes each week, and I was given an hourly stipend to cut the costs of my monthly tuition (to help my parents pay the bills!).

This definitely helped my parents afford my dance lessons, and all the while I was able to assist my favorite teacher, Miss Sarah, in her ballet classes. Thursdays were the best because I helped Miss Sarah teach for two hours in the evening, and then I took two hours of her advanced class at night. Plus, I would buy us both Dunkin Donuts coffee every week, and in the fall we would delight over our obsession with Dunkin pumpkin coffee (hot with milk and sweetner on the side). See, Miss Sarah was a professional ballerina and always came to class with her hair in a PERFECT French Twist slicked back and pinned, her eyeshadow was flawlessly done, and the colors of her eyeshadow complimented her leotard and ballet skirt, and it complimented her earrings (she wore the prettiest earrings!).

I always admired her eyeshadow and earrings, and I knew when I was the lead dance teacher in the future I was going to try to compose myself in the way Miss Sarah did so gracefully! Miss Sarah also was the only teacher who never waivered in her belief in me to suceed and achieve in dance, and in all of my other endeavors. She is a big reason I am where I am today as a dancer/performer. As you can see, I only have very fond memories of this teacher, and she clearly left a positive impact on me!

Always leaping!

The same year I began student teaching with Miss Sarah, I also began dancing in my high school’s musical productions! It was the first musical I ever danced in, and I began experimenting with makeup A LOT. I never wore a lot of makeup – a little mascara and blush, but I didn’t wear eyeliner or eyeshadow. But since I was going to be performing on stage as a character, I needed to improve my makeup skills. I bought a Maybelline and a Wet n’ Wild eyeshadow trio, and I began my experimentation! I also tried to mimic the winged liner I saw all of the other dancers wearing!

Thus, this experience catalyzed my obsession with makeup and eyeshadow, and I have not stopped experimenting with makeup or beauty products since. I was 15 when this all began, and now as a 22 year old woman I am so thankful dance and makeup go hand-in-hand, and that I can merge my two favorite obsessions together! ❤

Talk about a throwback… Here is 15 year old me experimenting with layering white eyeliner on top of my winged black liquid liner. This picture was taken in 2011 (check out my auburn hair!)

I started making makeup because I wanted to have my own makeup collection available to performers and people everywhere who need cruelty-free and quality makeup, whether they need to perform on stage or at their workplace! Doing your makeup makes you feel good, and when you feel good, you shine! I want people to shine and feel as beautiful as they can because they deserve to! And who knows, you may be the person who inspires another young kid to go pursue their dreams and work hard, and to have kick-ass eye makeup while doing it (like Miss Sarah did for me)!

Xoxo lots of love and positive energy

Ulta Rewards Birthday Gift for my 22nd!

Hi beautifuls!

Who doesn’t love Ulta Beauty?! I could literally spend hours in the Ulta store testing products, and just staring at all of the beautiful beauty products they sell. What I really love about Ulta is their rewards program, and if you are a rewards member you receive a free “birthday gift” during your birthday month. Last year, I received a beautiful Urban Decay eyeshadow – worth about $18!! It is one of my favorite eyeshadows now, and since it was a full-sized product I still have a lot of it left (even though I use it almost everytime I do my makeup).

Anyway, earlier this month I turned 22, and this year Ulta offered an even cooler gift for those of us born in July! It was a NYX Eyeshadow Palette, that says “Happy Birthday” on it! I’m not sure if the colors in the palette were curated specifically for Ulta for this birthday gift, but I have not seen NYX release a similar palette anytime recently, so I assume it’s a special birthday color mix! It is so gorgeous I just had to share pictures with you all!

The palette comes with 10 different eyeshadows. They are a mix of shimmers and mattes. Just from the swatches I made, some seem more pigmented and wetter than others, but with a little eyeshadow primer and wetting my eyeshadow brush before I apply them, the color payoff should be great.

All of these warm-toned reds, oranges, and pinks are my favorite colors to wear, and to be honest, I feel as though those colors are seriously trending across the beauty scene these days. Also, can we just take a look at that taupe in the top right?! UGH so so so pretty! I love this mix of colors so much and I can’t wait to play with it!

These swatches go from the left to the right (top row, bottom row), and unfortunately you can’t really see the first and the last colors from the palette because they are very flesh-toned. Nonethless, they will make great all-over the lid shadows.

If you shop at Ulta and are not on their rewards program you should definitely do it! ❤ There are so many perks, and they make sure their rewards members feel special on their birthday!

Julia’s Leaps of Faith Etsy Shop is Open!

Hi blog readers!

I am so excited to announce my Etsy shop – Julia’s Leaps of Faith – is now open for business! Remember back when I announced I was making my own makeup? (You can read about it here: Leaps of Faith Vegan & Cruelty-Free Homemade Eyeshadow). I have since been testing out different formulas and have sent some to friends and other bloggers (like Dating Through the Distance!) to try my homemade cosmetics, and I’ve received such good feedback! ❤ For this reason, I decided to take the leap and jump into running my own Etsy shop which consists of homemade eyeshadow, custom eye palettes, and soon screen-printed t-shirts! I am very excited about this endeavor as I venture into my first fall without college to worry about! Below are some swatches of colors that are available to purchase right now (more are to come!).

Also available are custom four pan eyeshadow palettes! They are so so so pretty and conveniently sized for travel or in the pocketbook! The colors will be sure to make your eyes pop whether you are performing on stage, on a date, running errands, or hanging with your besties! ❤ Check out some of my images below!

My eyeshadows are pressed in 26mm magnetic pans! The individual pans are selling for $5 individually, and the custom palettes are $20 each with the magnetic palette! 🙂 You can follow this link to check out my Etsy shop: JuliaLeapsofFaith Etsy. All of the eyeshadows are cruelty-free and most are vegan unless they contain carmine and are specified otherwise! 🙂

I hope you all enjoy my shop! I will still be reviewing other makeup, beauty, and dance products on here, but I will be promoting my own brand from time to time too 😉 You can always comment, or DM my Facebook or Instagram if you have any questions about ordering!

Let me know what you all think!

“Be…” BubzBeauty x BH Cosmetics Palette Review

Good evening readers!

I apologize for the lack of posts – I went to Puerto Rico over Columbus Day weekend, and this week was very hectic with school work. Nonetheless, this week gave me some time to play with my  “Be…” palette from BubzBeauty and BH Cosmetics! I was so excited to find this in the mail earlier this week, and I am pretty impressed with the palette overall! If you want a little more backstory on this palette, click here: BubzBeauty x BH Cosmetics Palette Release

First, let’s talk about the packaging! I LOVE the rose gold lace detail on the front of the palette. It is so girlie and feminine. Second, this palette is a lot smaller and more compact than it looks, which makes it perfect for travel or even throwing it in your purse! It is literally the perfect size!! The packaging is cardboard like the other BH Cosmetics YouTube collaboration palettes, which makes it super light weight as well. Furthermore, this palette includes a mirror underneath the lid, which is always a plus!! Above the inside mirror is a little quote from Bubbi herself, which gives the palette a nice personal touch!

Anyway, the colors I was most excited for in this palette were “Genuine”, “Able”, “Hopeful”, and “Grateful”. These were the colors that made me drool over this palette and have to have it! All of the colors I have used or swatched on my eyelid, and they are decently pigmented.I haven’t found a lot of fallout with these shades, and instead, their formula is almost buttery for the most part. A few of them are a little more chalky than the others, but with the right brush and two or more coats, you can really build up the colors to their truest potential. I am thankful Bubbi included “Optimistic” and “Inspired” matte shades to use as transition shades!

Today I am wearing “Grateful” all over my eyelid, “Able” in my outer V and crease, and “Thoughtful” in my outer V as a definer shade. It gave me this warm, rustic eye look, and I also winged my eyeliner and applied a warm mauve lipstick to tie it all together! I would have posted a selfie, but the lighting in my room right now stinks because the sun is setting, so I don’t want to include a picture where you can’t even see the colors.

My final thoughts about this palette are that it was definitely worth the $12.50 for how many eyeshadows you get, and it’s perfect for travel. As BubzBeauty wanted, it is a very versatile palette where the colors literally can take your look from day to night! I highly recommend this palette for your collection, as well as for a gift if you need a present for a beauty lover!

Did you order the “Be…” palette? What do you think of it? Let me know!

Until next time!

BubzBeauty x BH Cosmetics Palette Release

Good evening internet beauties!

I’m sure those of you who love BH Cosmetics already know this, but for those of you who don’t – BH Cosmetics has collaborated with yet another beauty YouTube guru for another AH-MAZING palette ❤ *Sigh*. I can’t keep up with all of the new product launches – I knew fall beauty was going to be a hit this year!

Anyway, Lindy Tsang is a YouTuber who is also known as BubzBeauty. BubzBeauty collaborated with BH Cosmetics to create the cutest palette, so of course, I ordered it the morning it launched. I always use my Carli Bybel x BH Cosmetics palette and I LOVE IT, so I have a feeling I will also love Lindy’s palette! Lindy said she created her new palette, called “Be…”, to be the palette you can grab when you need a look to go from day to night, and also the palette that will inspire you to be the best version of yourself. The design is a soft pink background with a rose gold lace detail. The palette looks sleek and easy to travel with, and it’s design is very feminine in a subtle flirty way. I love it. There is a mirror on the inside, and all 12 eyeshadows have different inspirational names!

Picture from

The shadows inside are all named, and from top row to bottom row, and right to left, the names are: Happy, Grateful, Genuine, Optimistic, Inspired, Bold, Charismatic, Thoughtful, Able, Confident, Hopeful, and Kind.

Picture from

There is a quote above the mirror that says, “Be whatever you want to be”, which is similar to the layout of the inside of the Carli Bybel palette. The Carli Bybel palette also has a quote, but hers is beneath the inside mirror. I love that these collaborations include inspirational messages from their collaborators because it’s make it more personal. I am drooling over the third top shadow “Genuine” which is a shimmery taupe, the two matte browns “Optimistic” and “Inspired”, and the shimmery rose gold shade “Able” in the bottom row! Also, those purple plum/lilac shades are calling my name! The whole palette seems so versatile – I am anxiously waiting for my shipping confirmation email to come tomorrow!

If you want to get your hands on this palette, it is available for purchase at it’s special launching price of $12.50! YES, $12.50!! Also, if you use the promo code RMN5OFF from RetailMeNot at checkout, you get an extra 5% off of your purchase. It’s a steal, and the $12.50 price is only available for a limited time!

I will be doing a full review of this palette once it comes in! ❤ Until then, I hope you all take my advice and go order it before they sell out, or change the price!

*Disclaimer: I am not an affiliate with BH Cosmetics. I bought this palette with my own money. This launch just has me super excited as I wait for my package!*

Did you order the BubzBeauty x BH Cosmetics palette? Let me know in the comments if you did! What are your favorite shades in the collaboration?
