New Essence Cosmetics Eyeshadow Palettes?!

Hello beautifuls!

I was in Harmon Face Values the other day picking up a new tube of my favorite Essence Cosmetics Princess Lash mascara, when I noticed their product section had been expanded. I noticed there were three new eyeshadow palettes as well, each retailing for $9.99 each and coming with 16 pans of eyeshadow color! The palettes are titled “Spice Up Your Life”, “I’m with the Band”, and “Fairy Wings and Magical Things”.

The “Spice Up Your Life” palette caught my eye – not only because the palette title reminds me of the iconic Spice Girls song, but also because the design of the packaging was reminiscent of fall (which if you’re a long-time reader you know is my FAVORITE season). I didn’t buy the palette, but I took some pictures of it to show you all what it looked like because it was so cute, and seemed like a good deal!

You can see why the packaging caught my eye – what a cute design! I love all of the spice doodles like the cinnamon stick and the pepper! Here is what the inside looks like.

The eyeshadows have a clear packaging over them so there was a lot of reflection from the store lights, but how great is the shade range? There is a nice balance of warm-toned and cool-toned shades, which make this palette seem super versatile! I hope one day I will be able to check it out!

The other two palettes included different color families, and their own fun combination of colors to match their themes. I will try to capture photos of the other two the next time I am in this store. Essence has so many fun and pretty products I want to try, especially now that their selection is so large in Face Values.

I am in NO WAY trying to rush summer, but fall beauty is my favorite!! There are always so many fun product launches all with fall themed packaging and color schemes. I can’t wait to see what else will be released by the end of August through October!

Have you tried this palette? What are your thoughts?!

Essence Cosmetics Gel Nail Polish System

Hi everyone!

Recently I bought some Essence Cosmetics brand “gel” nail polish, with their recommended base coat and top coat. My mom and I have been trying the polishes with the base and top coat system, and I wanted to review it for you all so you know what you are buying when you purchase these items! They claim to last 60% longer than traditional nail polish with no UV lamp required.

Let me start by saying I am really impressed with these polishes. Are they as good as a salon gel manicure or one that you need a UV light for? Honestly, no. You’re only going to get an “authentic” gel manicure by buying an at home system with a UV light or by going to the salon. HOWEVER, these polishes are super fast drying, they apply really well, and the base coat and top coat are the quickest drying base and top coats I’ve ever used. It makes it easy to have a nice foundation layer before adding color.

These polishes come in a decent range of colors, and as you can see, they have beautiful mauvey pinks, deep purple, and a mauve blue color. I love these colors so much. They also have a beautiful light purple color I want to eventually try. There is a color for all seasons and occasions which is nice.

The colors run for about $1.99 United States dollars, and the base coat and top coat are priced at $3.99 a piece which is not bad for a “gel system”. I bought mine at Harmons Face Values, but you can also purchase these at Ulta Beauty. The product claims to be ultra-long lasting, and I have to disagree. My nails lasted about two days of normal day-to-day activities before they chipped, and I’ve actually had better lasting time with other affordable polish such as Sinful Colors price.

Nonetheless, they have a normal level of staying power, and like I said I LOVE the colors they have available. The formula is a bit thicker than a regular polish for both the colors, and the base and top coats, but I think that is part of whatever makes the polish dry quickly. Although the formula is thick, it does not sit heavy on the nails nor does it feel goopy or chunky which is a definite plus. The wand and brush are short and fat which makes application a little hard if you don’t make sure the product is not globbed up on the brush bristles.

Currently, I’ve tried the shades You and Me?, Jeans On!, and Plump Power, and they all look really nice on the nails. I suggest buying these nail polishes if you want a quick drying nail polish product with a lovely range of color shades. It’s great if you’re working within a budget or if you just want to try something new.

Have you tried these nail polishes before, or their gel system? What do you think?

Fall Drug Store Haul

Hi beautiful readers!

I wanted to share with you some great products I bought last week. This past weekend, I traveled to North Carolina to visit my boyfriend, and go to a wedding, so I had a lot of opportunity to test theses products out. This haul included e.l.f. products which I ordered off of their website, some Essence cosmetics products, and a Wet N Wild rainbow highlighter which I purchased at Harmon’s Face Values.

The products include:

  1. e.l.f. cosmetics Brow Pencil in the shade Taupe
  2. e.l.f. cosmetics Acne Fighting Foundation in the shade Porcelain
  3. e.l.f. cosmetics Eyelid Primer in the shade Pearl
  4. e.l.f. cosmetics Concealer in the shade Fair
  5. e.l.f. cosmetics Tinted Lip Oil in the shade Mocha Kiss
  6. Essence Cosmetics Lash Princess False Lash Effect Mascara
  7. Essence Cosmetics I Love Colour Intensifying Eyeshadow Base
  8. Wet N Wild Color Icon Rainbow Highlighter in the shade Unicorn Glow

So the first three e.l.f. products I’ve tried before and LOVED, but decided to try them in different shades that I felt match my skin and hair colors better. The eyebrow pencil is a favorite of mine, and usually I use the pencil in warm brown, however the taupe color matches my eyebrows much better and gives them a more natural full effect.

Swatches from the top down: Tinted lip oil, eyebrow pencil, concealer, e.l.f. eyelid primer, Essence eyelid primer

The Acne Fighting Foundation has been a favorite of mine as well, but since fall is here and my summer tan has faded, my old Beige shade was too dark. This lighter color is closer to my skin tone and provides great coverage like the Beige one, however, I feel like e.l.f. needs to expand their range of foundation shades since this doesn’t quite match my skintone and it is such a great product.

This Essence mascara I’ve wanted to try for a long time, and fortunately, I am really happy with it! It does lengthen and separate lashes, making them look longer than some other drug store brands I’ve tried. My only complaint with this mascara is that when you rub your eyes, it leaves grey marks under the eyes which is not cute.

Between the eyelid primers (Essence and e.l.f.), I enjoy the texture of the e.l.f. one better. However, I usually buy the e.l.f. primer in sheer and I prefer the sheer color to this pearl one. Both the Essence and e.l.f. ones are good to have on hand, though, since they both last decently throughout the night.

So I’ve been eyeing this Wet N Wild highlighter for a long time, and I bought it just to give it a try. Plus, it will be great to include for my Halloween costume (I’m being a mermaid), so this product is just super fun. Check out my swatch of it! You can see all of the different shades of the rainbow.

I think my favorite product in this haul is the Tinted Lip Oil from e.l.f.! It smells like Mocha and is super yummy. It is lightweight enough to wear everyday, but elegant enough to wear to a party. It leaves a natural pigment on the lips and is not super sticky which is a plus!

This concludes the review of my haul, and I am really happy with all of the products I’ve bought. Do you see anything you’ve been wanting to try? Which products do you like that I bought?

Thanks for reading, until next time!

Dance Major Daily Makeup Routine

Hello internet beauties!

My final fall semester of undergraduate work has begun, and I am so excited for this year!! I have a lot of big projects I am working on this semester, and I can’t wait to share with y’all all of the cool tasks I’ll be taking on. I apologize for the lack of posting in the past week – between packing and moving to school, the first week of classes and rehearsals, and trying to have my last bit of summer fun with my friends, I’ve been a little distracted. Nonetheless, one of my goals this semester is to post more often, and today I have a makeup routine I want to share with you all!

Since I dance and workout almost every day of the week, I’ve had some people ask me what I do for my beauty routine during school since I exercise and sweat frequently throughout the day. I think finally, in my senior year as a dance major, I’ve nailed down a beauty routine that keeps my face acne and shine free, yet allows me to feel comfortable walking around campus not looking like a hot mess.

What I use everyday are the following products! (By the way, this makeup routine takes 10 minutes tops!):

The products shown include:

  1. Eco Tools Small Powder Brush
  2. NYX Microbrow pencil in the shade “Taupe”
  3. e.l.f. Matte Lip Color in the shade “Tea Rose”
  4. L’Oreal Voluminous Mascara in the shade “Black”
  5. Essence Cosmetics All About Matt! Fixing Powder
  6. Covergirl Ready Set Gorgeous Liquid Foundation in shade 205 “Natural Beige”
  7. Boo Boo Coverup in the shade “Light”

These are a lot of my favorite products, and here is a quick breakdown of how I do my face every day for school!

  1. I prep my face by washing it with Clean n’ Clear Morning Burst, and then rubbing a small amount of moisturizing lotion all over my face (instead of using a primer)
  2. I add some Boo Boo Cover up under my eyes to help conceal the dark circles, and also blend the concealer up to my temples and on/around my eyelids. This gives me a more even-toned base for the foundation.
  3. I only dab a few dots of Covergirl foundation onto my T-zone (under my eyes, a tad on my forehead, nose, and chin). I don’t add a lot of liquid foundation because I will be sweating and don’t want beige stains all over my rehearsal clothes. I blend this in using a disposable makeup sponge.
  4. I comb my brows with the spoolie end of the NYX Microbrow pencil, and fill them in using the opposite end (the wax crayon). I finish my brows by combing them/shaping them one last time with the spoolie. ** I repurchased the NYX microwbrow pencil recently and decided to try it in the shade “Taupe”. The last time I bought this product, I purchased the shade “Brunette”, and it was a few shades too dark for my hair color.**
  5. I add a lot of mascara! I also only apply the mascara to my top lashes. Recently, I’ve been loving the way my eyes look when I only apply mascara to the top lashes, so I use the Voluminous mascara to achieve long lashes! Plus, when I sweat, I don’t want to wipe under my eyes and smudge mascara on my bottom lashes, so the top lashes look fab by themselves.
  6. I dust my face using the Essence Cosmetics Matte Fixing Powder using the Eco Tools small powder brush. This sets my foundation and concealer, and again helps even out my skin tone. This helps keep my face shine free after a dance class or workout, and if I sweat, it doesn’t leave a beige colored residue on my hands or clothes if I wipe sweat away using my shirt or sleeve.
  7. Finally, I apply my FAVORITE e.l.f. cosmetics matte lip color! “Tea Rose” is a rosy mauve color, and is subtle enough to look natural, but pink enough to add a feminine pop of color to the lips! I can’t rave enough about this color!! I bought it for my mom and myself, and I want to also buy it for my sister and my best friend since they tried mine and loved it! Plus it’s $3.00 USD! If you don’t own it, you need to go out right now and add it to your beauty arsenal!

Here are some swatches of the products I use so you can see how they look on my skintone. I have a fair/medium skin tone, and swatched these on the underside of my forearm:

From left to right: Covergirl Ready Set Gorgeous foundation in shade 205, Boo Boo Coverup in the shade “Light”, e.l.f. cosmetics matte lip color in “Tea Rose”, NYX Microwbrow pencil in the shade “Taupe”

This routine is quick and simple, and allows me to go to ballet, modern, and rehearsal feeling like I look somewhat put-together. Additionally, when I go eat in the cafeteria or go to my academic classes, I don’t feel like I have to go reapply a whole face of makeup. To touch-up I can just dust on a little more fixing powder, add a bit more mascara, and reapply my lip color! So simple and easy, and it keeps me feeling confident throughout the day! I did my makeup like this today so I could show you the final result!

The lip color as I mentioned before is very subtle, but I think the result gives me a natural look and an even skin tone. I feel the prettiest this way too (even though I love doing a full face of makeup).

This is my dance major daily makeup routine, and I hope if you are a dancer or a performer of some type and need suggestions for makeup to last you through your rehearsals, this post helped you out! You can find most of the products mentioned at any drugstore (except the Boo Boo coverup).

Thanks for reading y’all! Until next time!

ULTA Beauty Birthday Haul

Recently I made an order at with the gift card my sister gave me for my birthday, and I picked up a few things I’ve been dying to get! I picked up my very first Z palette for all of the eyeshadows I’ve been making (since they are in pans) and it has an ADORABLE Betty Boop design, I picked up the Carli Bybel Palette (OMG IT IS SO GORGEOUS), and an Essence Make Me Brow Eyebrow Gel! Since I am a rewards member, I also received a birthday gift from ULTA – an Urban Decay eyeshadow pot in the shade “Midnight Cowboy”. Disclaimer: This is a picture-heavy post!

I was so excited to receive my package in the mail! Let me start by showing y’all the Betty Boop Z palette! There were two choices for the Betty Boop Large Z Palette – either a bunch of small Betty Boops with red and white polka dots, or the one I bought which is a feathery, colorful brush-stroke design with a cute image of Betty Boop on the back! Here’s some images!

Can we just admire how absolutely beautiful and adorable this design is?! I love it so much, and I’ve organized all of my homemade eyeshadows into it already which makes using them so much easier! I organized them by row according to color, too!

Next let me show you the birthday eyeshadow and my Essence brow gel! I haven’t tried the Urban Decay eyeshadow yet, but the color looks really versatile. I also was just picking up a new tube of the Essence Brow Gel since I am running out of the one I received in my Ipsy bag a few months ago.

How cute is the packaging for the Urban Decay eyeshadow?! *Swoon*

Finally, I saved the best for last – the Carli Bybel palette! I’ve been DROOLING over this palette since I knew about it a few months ago. It originated as a collaboration between BH Cosmetics and Carli Bybel, who is a beauty guru and popular YouTuber. ULTA just started selling this palette online, and it won’t be available in store until July 31, so I knew I had to pick this one up when I had the gift card! This palette is an eyeshadow and highlighter palette. The eyeshadows range from cool mauve matte tones, to bronzey shimmery shades!! It has quickly become a holy grail palette for me! I’ve been wearing it every day for the last three days, and let me tell you – the shadows & highlighters are TO DIE FOR!! ❤ Omg they are so blendable, pigmented and creamy in texture. I love all of it! Also, the packaging for her palette is too stinken cute!! Take a look!

I really can’t get over how ridiculously beautiful this palette is – and the quality is absolutely amazing! Carli Bybel you’ve outdone yourself you beautiful creature you!

Have you tried any of these products? You can get them all at ULTA Beauty or at! What do you think of the products?! Let me know!

Until next time xoxo,

PS: I have a very exciting post to make later this week! ❤
