I Tried to Follow a Kristen Davis Makeup Tutorial – This is What Happened

Happy Sunday everybody!

I’m sure you’ve all seen the tag going around YouTube – beauty YouTubers are filming themsleves following other beauty YouTubers’ makeup tutorials. I decided to try it for myself, and I knew I wanted to use the pretty blue shades from the MorphexJaclynHill palette. So I did a little YouTube searching and found a fun tutorial from Kristen Davis that made following the eye makeup look easy. You can view it below!

Her look is gorgeous, right? I didn’t have all of the exact products she used (other than the Morphe palette of course), and the false lashes I had on hand were a bit on the dramatic side…. LOL. Here is my final result!

Don’t be fooled – the lighting makes it look a lot better than it actually was. I thought I looked like a drag queen (nothing wrong with drag except I don’t look good with this dramatic of a look… plus I want to look like a woman, not like a man trying to look like a woman).

How do you guys think I did? The glitter eyeshadow topper I used was not as intense as hers (I used Colourpop’s Alchemy, she used an actual eye glitter), and the lashes she used were a better length for her face than the ones I used.

I never adventure with bold blues because I feel like blues don’t look well on my skin tone or with my hazel eye color. Nonetheless, this look was fun and definitely out of my comfort zone! Who’s eyemakeup tutorial do you think I should try next?!

Comment below on how you think I did, and if you would like to see me attempt more beauty tutorials from YouTube!

Crochet Hat Project

Good morning leaps readers!

I have recently taken up crocheting, and I am so obssessed with it! I’ve been learning through online tutorials from Melanie Ham, who is a crafter and blogger. She is amazing if you are interested in crocheting and have some time to learn!

Anyway, I tried using wool yarn the other day to make a messy bun beanie (a hat with an open top so your bun can stick through), but that project ended up looking more messy than beanie… LOL. So, I decided to try to crochet a slouchy hat using 100% acrylic yarn, and the outcome was SO PRETTY!

Here is close up – I matched my makeup of the day to my hat! I used purples and pink shimmers from the MorphexJaclynHill palette to do my eye makeup. My lipstick is the holiday 2017 Ultra Matte Lip from Colourpop in the shade Lil Pump!

Here is another angle that shows off the hat and eye makeup (and my engagement ring lol) a little more. This hat took me a little under four hours to make in its entirety.

The fit is relaxed and slouchy, and it stays on well. There has been no slipping of the hat over my eyes or off of my head! I am really excited to make a few more of these. My sister already asked me to make her one!

If you like my crochet work, be sure to check out my Etsy and take a look at my crochet bun covers! I might be adding hats to the listings if I get some more good feedback from other people!

Let me know what you think in the comments!

Until next time xoxo

Hooked Siren – Halloween Mermaid Makeup

Hi beautiful ghouls!

Yesterday I created a Hooked Siren look, complete with shells from the ocean and a hook straight out of my dad’s tackle box. This look took me about an hour and 45 minutes to complete, and I used a hell of a lot of different beauty products/Halloween sfx products to do it. All products used will be bolded so you can find them easily.

For my face, I used a moisturizer to prime. Then I added e.l.f. Acne Fighting Foundation and e.l.f. concealer to prep my skin. Next, I added a cream contour to my face – to my temples and around my forehead, the hollows of my cheeks, and my jaw line. I blended this out and finished with It Cosmetics Bye Bye Pores setting powder.

Next, I created the scales! I put a pair of old fishnet stockings around my head, and created an ombre effect of scales using my Julia’s Leaps of Faith eyeshadows! If you don’t know, those are the shadows I make myself! I used the color Puddles ( a bright blue) and Introspective (a smokey purple) which are both currently available for purchase on my Etsy, and then I used a color that is not released on my Etsy shop yet called Mermaid Lagoon (a black based dark blue) for the darkest scale shade!

After my scales were on, I created the hook injury using a real fishing hook, flesh liquid latex, and ripped up tissues. I let this set and dry on my face while I completed my eyes! For my eyebrows I used Colourpop’s Supershock Eyeshadow in Rhinestone which is a black-based metallic blue/green color on a small angled brush, and filled my brows in like I normally would. This eyeshadow color gave my eyebrows a blu-ish green hue that is reminscent of the ocean floor! Then I used TooFaced Sugar Pop palette and completed my eye makeup with the purples and blues in the palette. I topped the center of my eyelids with the glitter sheer Supershock eyeshadow from Colourpop in Alchemy.

I completed my eye look with some winged liner using e.l.f. Expert Liner and Ciate London Fierce Flicks. I created a “mermaid tail” wing instead of a traditional wing. Then I used the Essence Cosmetics False Lash mascara to give my lashes definition and length. By this time, my injury was dry, so I picked at it to give it a distressed effect. Then I added my foundation around the outside to make it flesh-toned. I added red and purple tones to the perimeter using the e.l.f. Mad for Matte 2 palette so the wound appeared bruised and infected. At the end, I dumped some fake blood all over it, and let it run down my neck to give the appearance that it was still bleeding.

I finished my look with a rhinestone headband, and glued some sea shells to my forehead using more liquid latex (this part was surprisingly difficult!). I finished with the Ulta Matte Lip Cream in the shade Allusive for a dark, moody lip that fit the dark blues and purples of this look!

To complete the costume, I added a blue/green sparkly crocheted light-weight sweater (I borrowed from my mom) that looked like a fishing net. I wore a black crop top camisole underneath the netting. Then I wore pearl earrings, a pearly bracelet, and a pearly necklace (all fake of course) to match my underwater theme!

I had SUCH a fun time creating this look yesterday, and I received many compliments on it whether it was in-person compliments, Instagram, or compliments from DMs on Snapchat! I hope you like this look, and try it for yourself! The great part of this costume idea is that you can use any color scheme!

Until next time, stay scary!

First Day of Fall Makeup!!

Hi beautiful internet readers!

I wanted to show you all a fun and berry-inspired makeup look I completed on the first day of fall (September 22, 2017)! This look was so fun to do, and it was completed using only eyeshadows from the Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance palette. I love this palette SOOOO much, and it is great for fall makeup looks.

Other products I used included e.l.f. Foundation, Hikari blush/bronzer duo, Becca Cosmetics highlighter, e.l.f. Eyebrow Pencil, e.l.f. Precision Eyeliner, Colourpop Ultra Matte Lipstick in the shade Viper, Chella Beauty Eyebrow Creme, Essence Beauty Brow Gel, and Tarte Cosmetics mascara.

I really love how this look turned out, and I felt so beautiful! This was also the first time I decided to wear liquid eyeliner in a very long time. Usually, it is hit or miss with how I like the look of winged liner on me, but this day I loved it. Maybe it is the power of my favorite season working it’s magic! ❤

How do you guys think this look came out? Do you like it? What does your fall makeup look like? Let me know!

National Dance Day & National Lipstick Day!

Today is a double national holiday for me – it is NATIONAL DANCE DAY, and NATIONAL LIPSTICK DAY! Can you believe the two coexist on one amazing day of the year?! 🙂 I am so thankful for both dance and lipstick, and in honor of recognizing the two holidays, today I wanted to tell you all about my favorite ballet shoes, and favorite lipstick to wear on stage!

Let’s start with ballet shoes. I used to be devoted to Bloch Zenith ballet slippers – the canvas type to be exact. I wore them all throughout college. However, as I progressed through college and danced many hours a week, the bone structures of my feet actually shifted and changed, and the Bloch Zenith’s lost their perfect fit. The reason I loved them was because they were soft and form-fitting, and the elastics came pre-sewn. They are still a great option to look into if you’re shopping for new ballet slippers.

Nonetheless, the ballet slippers I am highlighting today are So Danca SD16s! I recently have become a huge fan of these shoes! They fit like a sock, come pre-sewn, are canvas, and hug the shape of the foot in a very flattering way. Furthermore, they are GREAT for turning, center tendu and pirouette, and even for allegro. When my feet get sweaty, they stay put, and I don’t find my feet slipping out of them, or sticking to the floor in a negative way that inhibits my movement.

So Danca SD16 – I wear a size 7.5 B width

They are incredible, and AFFORDABLE so I highly recommend these slippers to any dancer who wants to try something new! These shoes retail for about $22, and are totally worth the money. As you can tell from the picture, I just bought a new pair for company rehearsals, and I’m obssessed.

So Danca SD16

Next onto lipstick! I love wearing red lipstick, and more time then not if I have red lipstick on, that means it is show time!! I’m either at a dress rehearsal or in a dressing room putting my makeup on for a show! I’ve tried so many shades of red in all types of finishes – satins, mattes, ultra mattes, metallics, etc. I’ve tried cool-toned reds, blue-toned reds, warm-toned reds, and rust-toned reds. I sweat a lot during dress rehearsals and shows too, and I require a lipstick that can stay put and not move when I am sweating and quickly changing on the side of the stage between numbers.

The lipstick I’ve found that steals the show and is my favorite lipstick for stage is ColourPop’s Ultra-Matte lipstick in the shade Mama! It is a warm/orange-toned red that is super matte! It looks amazing on, and doesn’t move for hours! When reapplication is needed, a dab in the center of the lips will do, and it looks great in photographs, up close, and from far away.

ColourPop Ultra-Matte Lipstick in Mama

As you can see, I use this lipstick really often and the ColourPop logo has actually rubbed off of the tube. I always throw this in my beauty bag when I have any sort of performance that requires a full-face of makeup, and I am always complimented on it when I wear it. I don’t think a lot of warm-toned reds look good against my teeth, yet this color completes my makeup look when I am on stage! It retails for $6 on the Colourpop website! It’s a steal and definitely worth the very affordable price of $6.

ColourPop Ultra-Matte Lipstick in Mama

Today is a beautiful Saturday, and the beautiful weather makes it a perfect day to celebrate National Dance Day and National Lipstick Day! I hope you all find something to dance about today, and put on a little bit (or a lot) of your favorite lipstick and let yourself feel beautiful! ❤ Because that is the nature of today, and it is only right to celebrate appropriately!

Thank you all for reading! I hope you enjoyed my post, and let me know how you all are celebrating National Dance Day and National Lipstick Day!
