How did Your Blog Begin?

Julia’s Leaps of Faith was born in June of 2015 when my now-ex boyfriend joined the army. It began as a safe space for me to write about my frustrations and experiences with the military and long-distance dating, while being a full-time college student completing two majors, who was also working part-time. Eventually, I began posting about other topics, including beauty, which I soon realized was the category most visited by my readers. I changed my blog from a “MilSO” blog, to a beauty blog, and received great response to the change. As college grew busier, I took some time away from WordPress to focus on my studies.

Finally, I graduated college in 2017 and decided I wanted to devote most of my blogging to my experience in the performing arts industry, with the occasional post about great beauty products, and healthy recipes. Julia’s Leaps of Faith is now a beauty, dance, and lifestyle blog dedicated to the authentic relaying of my experiences navigating the NYC dance scene, and promoting a healthy, active lifestyle.

Advice to New Bloggers

My biggest piece of advice is write from your heart, and write about topics you enjoy. I know my readers enjoy beauty posts, but right now my focus is on dance and healthy lifestyle, and I genuinely enjoy putting out content about those topics. There was a point in my blogging history where I grew very bored with topics about dating in the military and topics about beauty products because my content started to feel redundant and bland. I felt like I needed to only write about what I thought people wanted to read. Now, I keep my readers interest’s in mind, however, I only post about things I feel passionately for. It keeps blogging from becoming a chore, and it keeps me motivated to continue updating my feed.

Keep your content unique to you and your personality. Your blog will find it’s niche naturally as time progresses. I would say my blog is FAR from a MilSO blog anymore, and I am incredibly happy I didn’t continue trying to only cater to military significant others. Also, don’t be discouraged if you do not gain a quick following. You should blog for you, and the followers will come if you are persistent and write passionately.

e.l.f. Lipstick Swatches and Review

Hi everyone! I hope you are having as splendid of a night as I am having! Not only did I find out today I earned all A’s and A-‘s for the fall semester, I was nominated for the Liebster Award! You can see my previous post for all of the information about that 🙂 I am feeling really happy today, and I wanted to swatch all three of the e.l.f. lipsticks I received for Christmas from my Black Friday haul, and show you how pretty these colors are!

I ordered two Moisturizing lipsticks, and I received the Ultra Matte Lip Color stick for free (it was part of their Black Friday week special).

Marsala Blush and Southern Belle are the two Moisturizing lipsticks, and Rich Red is the Ultra Matte Lip Color.

I am pleasantly surprised with the quality of these lipsticks from e.l.f.. e.l.f. is such an affordable brand, so sometime I am skeptic of how well some of their products will work. There have been some items that have not worked well for me that I ordered during Black Friday week, but others are wonderful. These lipsticks happen to be part of the wonderful category!

Marsala Blush is easily my new favorite shade! It is a rosy, mauve color with cool undertones, and is subtle enough to wear it looks really natural on my lips, but adds just enough color for people who see it to assume I am probably wearing lipstick. It looks pretty with any eyeshadow combinations I’ve done since receiving the lipstick, and it stays on pretty well. Not to mention is smells amazing, and makes your lips super soft and kissable!

Southern Belle is another Moisturizing Lipstick that I love! This color is a little more orange than Marsala Blush, and it looks really nice when I am want to rock a lip with warmer undertones. It is still subtle enough to wear everyday, and it also smells amazing and leaves my lips super soft instead of dried out!

Rich Red is a beautiful shade of red. In my New Years Eve Makeup post, I wore this shade to my friend’s New Years Eve party! I love this color! It is a little hard to apply (it takes a little extra pressure than normal lipstick), but it stayed on rather well throughout the party. It doesn’t last as long as the ColourPop lippies or Ultra Mattes do, but it was still a great shade for the holiday! The pencil tip is thin enough to wear I could also use this as a lip liner as well! I will experiment with that when I have a few dance performances during the spring semester!

Just wanted to display the sleek packaging and this cute photo of my boyfriend and I 🙂

The packaging for these lipsticks is super sleek and easy to carry around. I recommend these three shades if you are looking to try some of e.l.f.’s lip colors!

3. Describe a good memory that you have?

Hmm, I have so many wonderful memories I love reminiscing on! I’d have to say, a good memory I have is the day I auditioned for the dance program at my school and made it, and was offered a large scholarship (it was instant decision with the professors if they wanted you in or not). I remember stopping at my grandma and grandpa’s house with my mom afterwards and eating a great dinner my grandma prepared. It was cold outside since it was December, but it was warm in their house, and I sat there eating and thinking, “Wow, I did it! I made it into my top school!”.

4. What is the best place you have been on vacation to?

Oh my, well this is a tough one! I traveled to Disney World and Puerto Rico this year and LOVED both of those trips so much! I’ve been on some great vacations with my family over the years, but I’d have to tie my favorite destinations with Puerto Rico, and the Oahu island of Hawaii!

5. What is your favorite song?

I’d have to say one of my all-time favorite songs will have to be Home by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, but I love a lot of Hozier’s music as well!

6. What are your hobbies?

I love dancing, blogging, and scrapbooking! I am an avid scrapbooker. I am always working on my Smashbook, a new scrapbook, or a shadow box 🙂

8. Describe the worst date you’ve ever been on.

Oh geez. I haven’t dated many guys, but I remember this one guy randomly added me on Facebook when I was 16. We had no mutual friends, and he did MMA style fighting. He had a lot of scars on his face, and his initials were literally K.K.K. (yikes! I know, I wish I was joking!). So he asked me one day to go to the movies, and I agreed because he was nice enough and I thought I’d give him a chance. Well turns out through the whole movie he awkwardly tried touching my arm, legs, and holding my hand, and then walked me to my car and kept trying to kiss me even when I pulled away. It was awful. That was the end of that. I defriended him on Facebook a year later, but he re-requested me just a few months ago! Uhm, can we all say CREEPY?!?!

9. What’s your favorite color?

Purple!! Green is a close second.

10. What is your favorite TV show?

I love Game of Thrones!! I am so addicted, and want to start reading the books. I also love American Horror story, but this past season was such a dud.

11. Who is the person you go to for advice and why?

I go to my mom and dad, my sister, and my friends Kelsie and Jessie. They all have good insight on different things I am going through or obstacles I am facing, and they keep me level-headed and calm.

I nominate:

My questions for you:

  1. What is your favorite book and magazine to read?

  10. If you were offered to travel in a spaceship for a year and were guaranteed complete safety and health, but had to sacrifice all contact with your friends and family on earth for that year, would you do it and why?
  11. What is/was your favorite academic subject to study?

Happy blogging beauties! ❤
