Flourless, Eggless, Dairy-Free Pumpkin Pancakes for your October Morning!

Hello beautiful internet readers! HAPPY HALLOWEEN! Today I have another recipe for you!

My friend sent me a Snapchat the other day of these delicious vegan pumpkin pancakes she made. I asked her for the recipe, and decided to try them for myself!

The original recipe can be found at The Big Mans World website, but I doctored it a little bit to fit my needs.

pumpkinpancakes1.jpg

Ingredients

  1. 1 cup rolled oats (I used flattened quick oats and it worked well!)
  2. 1/4 cup milk of choice (I used coconut milk) **I found this recipe needs an extra 1/4 of milk, making the final ratio a 1/2 cup of your milk of choice**
  3. 1/2 cup pumpkin puree (I used organic)
  4. 1/2 tsp of cinnamon
  5. 1/2 tsp of pumpkin spice (or you can mix equal parts cinnamon, ginger, and cloves to create your own)
  6. 1 tbsp of baking powder
  7. 1 tbsp of apple cider vinegar
  8. 1 tbsp of sticky sweetener of choice (I used maple syrup, but you can use honey or any other syrup)
  9. 1/4 cup of chocolate chips (totally optional but totally worth it)

Instructions

  1. Add all of the dry ingredients and blend them together. I did this first as it created almost a flour-like base for all of my wet ingredients.
  2. Add all of the wet ingredients to the dry mixture and blend together. I used my NutriBullet, but if you don’t have a blender you can use a hand mixer or stand-up mixer. Stir in chocolate chips.
  3. Let the mixture sit for 3 to 5 minutes, and use an oil or fat of choice to grease a heating skillet. I used coconut oil because I love it, and find it keeps my pans greasy better than a vegetable oil.
  4. When the pan is hot, use your 1/4 cup to measure out a 1/4 cup of batter and pour into the pan. You will need to move the batter around to flatten it out a bit.
  5. Cook for 3 to 5 minutes on each side for a more traditional pancake consistency.  The original recipe says to cook for 1 to 2 minutes, and when I did this for my first pancake it was a little too wet for my liking still. Cooking the pancakes for a bit longer per side gave them a traditional pancake shape and consistency. When I saw the edges turning golden brown I knew to flip them. **Make note when cooking longer not to burn them**
  6. When done, plate them and serve with your favorite toppings, fruits, nuts, etc. And don’t forget your coffee!

Voilà! You can now enjoy healthy, vegan delicious pumpkin pancakes!

pumpkinpancakes2.jpg

If you have any leftover pancakes, individually wrap them in foil or plastic wrap and store in the freezer! When you are in a hurry in the morning, you can take them out of the freezer and let them defrost for a few minutes and eat them cold, pop them into the toaster and toast them like bread, or reheat them in a skillet!

I hope you enjoy this recipe, and I hope you try it for yourself! They are so delicious and easy to make, and also super filling/satisfying!

Hope you enjoy the spookiest day of the year!!

Evil (Mis)Fortune Teller Halloween Makeup!

Hi all!!

This October, I knew I wanted to challenge myself and create a really fun look for Halloween! I decided on an evil (mis)fortune teller who is crying because of what she sees coming! Dark and sad has kind of been my aesthetic lately anyway, so why not manifest it into some fun Halloween makeup? *Laugh cries*

My sister threw a huge Halloween costume party last weekend, so I actually recreated this look twice! The images I will post below are from the first time I tried the makeup. I really liked the way it came out! I don’t have many pics from the night of the actual party, but I will post a picture from Snapchat I took with my brother from the party night since I did it slightly different than my first attempt. Nevertheless, here was the result! I’M OBSESSED!

I used all of the products listed in the Prepping for Halloween 2018! article I wrote earlier this month! I L.O.V.E. Wet N Wild’s Fantasy Maker’s collection, and I adore Wal-Mart for having such affordable prices on everything Halloween to make the holiday accessible to everyone! In addition to the products I listed in my Halloween prep article, I used eyeshadows from the Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Palette, and the MorphexJaclyn Hill palette.

I was in a nice fall sweater in the above photos, but for my actual costume I borrowed some bohemian pants from my neighbor, wore a black top, and wore two more necklaces that had crystals and coins on them. I also added two more gems underneath my eyes, and some more fake blood running from my actual eyes. I curled my hair and wore it half up and half down instead of all the way up like it is picture above. On my hips, I wore a purple coin wrap! The photos below are from the second time I tried this look.

I even bought a fake septum piercing for this costume which you can kind of see in this image of me the night of the party. My sister’s party was so fun! There was a ton of food, lots of adult beverages, and her house was steeped in spooky decorations. There was a costume contest, and there was talk of mine being in the top three of most original! There was no official end count for costume prizes because… ya know… apple cider jungle juice had everyone a little distracted.

Last but not least, here is an image of me from the party that night posing with my best friend! You can kind of see the gist of the whole ensemble!

October is such a MOOD for me! I love it so much. Tonight I am headed off to a party with my best friend, and I am going as a galaxy!! This look should be really fun to do and I can’t wait to play with some more face paint and glitter! I will definitely take lots of selfies if I really like it, and show you all the final result!

How do you like this look? The makeup is so fun to play with, and the costume itself was free because it was my clothes and clothes I borrowed from friends! Feel free to recreate this look if you like it, and let me know what you think!

xoxo Happy Hauntings!

Best Halloween Movies to Binge-Watch this Fall

HELLO WORLD!

You all ALREADY KNOW how much I LOVE Halloween and this spooky time of the year! I’ve always had an affinity for weird and unorthodox things and scary movies, so it is fitting I feel so nostalgic and happy throughout the Halloween season!

One of my favorite activities includes watching Halloween movies or scary movies, so here are the top 15 films you should be watching between now and All Hallows’ Eve! These are in no particular order, however, the top three are three of my ALL TIME FAVORITES.

Best Halloween Movies for a Spooky October

  1. Hocus Pocus (1993): Three witches are accidentally brought back to life by a virgin named Max who lights the cursed black-flame candle. They seek to steal the souls of young people before sunrise so they can live forever. It’s up to Max, his sister Dani, and his crush Allison to stop them.
  2. The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993): Jack Skellington rules Halloweentown and their Halloween celebrations every year. But Jack is bored, and accidentally stumbles upon Christmas town, and wants to steal the holiday from Santa with his own Jack-twist. He’s a little too good at being scary, and ultimately chaos ensues on Christmas Eve.
  3. The Shining (1980): The Torrance family agrees to hotel-sit the historic Overlook Hotel for the winter so husband Jack can finish his novel. The Overlook sits in the mountains, and winter’s snowfall make the mountain impassible, so the family cannot be reached easily. Slowly, Jack starts losing his mind, while son Danny has terrifying premonitions about the past and future. Wife Wendy is naive to the severity of the situation until it’s too late.
  4. Halloween (1978): In 1963, Michael Myers brutally murders his sister, and is sentenced and locked away in an insane-asylum. Flash forward to 1978, he escapes and returns to his home town to wreak havoc and find his next victims.
  5. The Craft (1996): Sarah recently moved to a Los Angeles high school, hoping to leave her troubled past behind her. She soon discovers she has telekinetic abilities, and serendipitously befriends three wannabe witches. Together, they learn how to harness their powers, but fail to realize their powers have tragic consequences.
  6. Young Frankenstein (1974): Dr. Frederick Frankenstein learns he inherited his grandfather’s estate in Transylvania. Once he arrives to the estate, he recreates old experiments his grandfather once tried. In an attempt to reanimate dead tissue, he creates his own monster, which creates unforeseen issues, that are complicated further once his fiancée comes to town.
  7. A Quiet Place (2018): In what seems to be a post-apocalyptic Earth, one family seeks to survive a foreign invader. They can’t make any noise, because if the invaders hear them, they hunt them.
  8. Halloweentown (1998): Marnie fights with her mom who won’t let her or her siblings celebrate Halloween. By chance, she follows her grandmother home to “Halloweentown” where she discovers not only is her grandmother a witch, but she is too, and she has to help her grandmother fight an evil force from destroying the world.
  9. Corpse Bride (2005): Victor and Victoria have an arranged marriage. During the rehearsal ceremony, Victor forgets his vows, and flees to the forest to practice them. He recites his vows and slips the wedding band onto a nearby branch growing from the ground. This branch is actually the finger of dead bride Emily who was murdered on her own wedding day, who now believes Victor is her beloved and betrothed.
  10. Beetlejuice (1988): Barbara and Adam die in a car accident, and are stuck haunting their previous home. The Deetzes purchase the home, and Barbara and Adam attempt to scare them away. When they realize their tactics are not working, a spirit named Beetlejuice steps in to help them out, which causes more harm than help.
  11. Coraline (2009): Coraline explores her new home while feeling emotionally neglected by her parents. One night she discovers a small door in the house that leads to an alternate world. This world is like her own, but better, equipped with her own “Other Mother” and “Other Father”. Her “Other Parents” attempt to keep her in this alternate world permanently by trapping her there and hiding her parents. She has to fight to return home, and find her real parents before it’s too late.
  12. The Conjuring (2013): In 1970, the Perron family purchases a new home where they quickly realize everything is not as it seems. Paranormal activity soon escalates, and the Perron’s call in the Warren’s who are demonologist experts to help fight the evil present in the house. This movie is based on true events.
  13. It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown (1966): On Halloween, Sally is torn between trick-or-treating for the first time, attending Violet’s Halloween party, or waiting with her love Linus for the Great Pumpkin to arrive. The Peanuts celebrate at Violet’s party while Linus waits patiently for the Great Pumpkin.
  14. Edward Scissorhands (1990): A scientist creates Edward, and dies before finishing his assembly, thus leaving Edward with scissors for hands. A woman named Peg finds him, and brings him home, where Edward falls for her daughter. He is gentle and artistic, but his scissor hands make him an outcast, and cause problems.
  15. The Nun (2018): A young nun at a secluded convent takes her own life. A priest at the vatican is ordered to investigate the suicide, with the help from a novitate who has not yet taken her vows. Together, they venture to the abandoned convent only to find a demonic nun rules the convent, and they are the only people who can stop it.

If you haven’t seen Hocus Pocus, The Nightmare Before Christmas, or The Shining, you need to stop reading this post right now and go watch them!! They are ICONIC films, all for different reasons, and they will be sure to put you in the Halloween spirit! The Nightmare Before Christmas could also be considered a Christmas movie, so if you have the Santa spirit in you already (which you shouldn’t yet, but I’ll forgive you!), then definitely watch it first!

This list has a good mix of feel-good, family friendly films, to films that will scare your pants off and make you sleep with a night-light. Whatever the case, I hope you find something on this list to watch!

What are your favorite Halloween/scary movies? Sound off in the comments!

Happy hauntings! xoxoxo

HorrorCon Fall 2018 – Atlantic City, NJ

HAPPY AUTUMN EVERYONE!

I had such an amazing week last week – I will tell you all more information once some paperwork is finalized, however, I ended my amazing week by going to Atlantic City with my two good friends for the fall NJ Horror Convention!

This convention happens twice a year, and this season it was held at the Showboat hotel in A.C. My friends and I stayed at the Showboat, and had a super fun 36 hours running around Atlantic City!

We arrived at the hotel at midnight on what was technically Saturday morning (and technically the first day of fall). We checked in, went to our room, freshened up, and then took a Lyft to Bally’s for an Emo Night Brooklyn event! Emo Night Brooklyn is a DJ show where the DJ plays all pop-punk, alternative, and emo music ranging from the early 2000s to pop punk hits from today! It was held in the Wild Wild West casino in the Ballys resort. I’ve been wanting to go to an Emo Night Brooklyn event for a few months now, so to do it with my two good friends was special! I also ran into some friends from high school while I was there, which was awesome. We didn’t arrive back to our hotel until 3:30am!

Saturday we woke up, went for lunch in the hotel, and then went into the convention! HorrorCon has all types of horror-inspired small businesses and vendors come set up tables to sell products, and there was an independent horror film festival going on as well. In addition, there were so many actors and actresses/celebrity icons at this event! Cassandra Peterson (who was the original Elvira!) was the headlining personality at this convention, in addition to Dee Snider (Twisted Sister), Bam Margera (MTV’s “Jackass”), and Linda Blair (from the Exorcist!). Tony Moran, the man who originally played Michael Myer’s in “Halloween” was there, along with many others.

I picked up a few awesome items from this convention! If I hadn’t lost $65 gambling, I would have probably bought more fun things! But when in Rome, you do as the Romans, am I right? 🙂 Anyway, here are the awesome items I bought!

20180924_124814.jpg

My first and FAVORITE purchase is this print made by artist Scott Straka. He is a Philadelphia-based artist, and was selling his AMAZING portraits for an amazing price. I was drawn to his table for a portrait he did of Tate Langdon (Evan Peter’s character from season 1 of American Horror Story). It was an incredible drawing, but when I started looking at the other available prints, I FELL IN LOVE with this Bride of Frankenstein portrait. It gives me all of the old-Hollywood glam-gore vibes, and looks super pretty on my bedroom wall! This was definitely the best find while I was there.

Check out Scott Straka’s store if you want dope prints like this for your home! https://scottstrakaart.storenvy.com/

20180924_124526.jpg

My next purchase was this tee-shirt advertising for Poisonous Pinups. Poisonous Pinups is an alternative pin-up model magazine (very similar to Suicide Girls if you are familiar with them), and I really liked their logo! The sticker of the red-haired monster/thing is also featured on the back of the shirt printed much larger, and it gives me all the badass lady boss vibes. This magazine is based in NJ, so it was cool to support this small business.

20180924_124650.jpg

This pin has to be one of the coolest I’ve ever seen, and I was SO excited to buy it. This is from a company called Kneehigh Horror, and the owner makes and sells enamel pins from very niche horror films. This lovely lady pin is the Salma Hayek character Satanico Pandemonium from Quentin Tarantino’s movie “From Dusk Til Dawn”. Her character does a burlesque dance with this cool headdress and a python(!!), so naturally, I wanted this to display on my denim jacket!

You should definitely check out his shop if you’re interested in some niche and hard-to-find pins based on different horror series. https://www.etsy.com/shop/KneehighHorror

If you couldn’t tell, I had a theme to all of my purchases: badass ladies!

Anyway, later in the night I went out with my two friends, and we went to the new Hard Rock hotel for some dinner, drinks, and gambling! We even went to the Sugar Factory (which was my first time!), where we ordered a special 60 ounce watermelon mojito drink, topped off with sour watermelon gummy candies, and raspberry gummies inside the glass! It was delicious, and something I’ve always wanted to do!

Sugar Factory

None of us won any money unfortunately, but after a few hours out, we ended up going back to our hotel and talking until the wee hours of the morning.

This trip was definitely one I will always remember. It is such an empowering feeling to be able to geek out with my two friends who are also super into horror/Halloween/alternative styles, and be comfortable being the real Julia for the first time in what seems like my entire life. Since April, I’ve been trying new things and having all types of new experiences! Not only have I been going places I’ve always wanted to go, I’ve also been tapping into all of my interests, including those I haven’t thought to tap into in years. It is so weird to me how I never allowed myself to step outside of my comfort zone and be my true authentic self. Weekends like this help me realize all parts of me make me a badass boss lady (just like my Bride of Frankenstein and my Salma Hayek pin).

I hope you enjoyed this post, and if you’re in NJ/NY/PA, you should definitely consider attending this convention if you can make it! There will be another one in the spring, but I do not know yet where it will be. I’m not sure if I will attend the spring one, but it will be fun to make this convention trip an annual fall occurrence with my friends!

Xoxo Happy Autumn loves!

New Essence Cosmetics Eyeshadow Palettes?!

Hello beautifuls!

I was in Harmon Face Values the other day picking up a new tube of my favorite Essence Cosmetics Princess Lash mascara, when I noticed their product section had been expanded. I noticed there were three new eyeshadow palettes as well, each retailing for $9.99 each and coming with 16 pans of eyeshadow color! The palettes are titled “Spice Up Your Life”, “I’m with the Band”, and “Fairy Wings and Magical Things”.

The “Spice Up Your Life” palette caught my eye – not only because the palette title reminds me of the iconic Spice Girls song, but also because the design of the packaging was reminiscent of fall (which if you’re a long-time reader you know is my FAVORITE season). I didn’t buy the palette, but I took some pictures of it to show you all what it looked like because it was so cute, and seemed like a good deal!

20180804_111337.jpg

You can see why the packaging caught my eye – what a cute design! I love all of the spice doodles like the cinnamon stick and the pepper! Here is what the inside looks like.

20180804_111641.jpg

The eyeshadows have a clear packaging over them so there was a lot of reflection from the store lights, but how great is the shade range? There is a nice balance of warm-toned and cool-toned shades, which make this palette seem super versatile! I hope one day I will be able to check it out!

20180804_111551.jpg

The other two palettes included different color families, and their own fun combination of colors to match their themes. I will try to capture photos of the other two the next time I am in this store. Essence has so many fun and pretty products I want to try, especially now that their selection is so large in Face Values.

I am in NO WAY trying to rush summer, but fall beauty is my favorite!! There are always so many fun product launches all with fall themed packaging and color schemes. I can’t wait to see what else will be released by the end of August through October!

Have you tried this palette? What are your thoughts?!

Xoxo
